>>Single Studies

As well as its award courses, the Conservatorium welcomes members of the public to undertake individual tuition (music lessons) and coaching in single subjects, especially vocal or instrumental performance (Classical) and the theory of music. Applicants enrol through the Conservatorium office, and receive their lessons in the Conservatorium's studios. There are four ten-week terms of Single Studies lessons each year. As a standard, single studies students undertake a weekly half-hour lesson at a time organised with their teacher, for each term. Longer lesson times may be arranged as necessary (eg. students undertaking higher AMEB levels) and are charged accordingly.

Single Studies students are entitled to use the Library and other student facilities of the Conservatorium, and may attend some other sessions by arrangement. They will not, however, be admitted to examination for any course subject unless they are currently enrolled for that course. It follows that, except in special circumstances, studies undertaken as a Single Studies student cannot ordinarily be counted towards the Diploma of Music.

>>Payment of Fees

Single Studies fees are payable per term in advance (prior to the start of each term). The current fee structure can be found here. Further payment details can be found here.

>>Application and Enrolment

Prospective Single Studies students should complete an Application/ Audition/ Enrolment Form, and submit it to the Melba Office with a payment of $50 non-refundable Application and Registration Fee (includes GST.) The Melba Office will then contact you to arrange a time for your audition and interview, which enable us to determine an appropriate teacher, a proposed lesson day and time, lesson duration and so on.
