Oil Painting

For your first lesson you can use our materials simply bring the materials you already have and a blank canvas. We can then discuss what your individual requirements are but here is the standard kit: 

  1. Low odour mineral turpentine (Hardware store or Supermarket.) or odour free mineral turpentine can be purchased from art shop.

  2. 2 glass or plastic jars with lids

  3. Some old rags

  4. A palette (flat plastic lids are fine.)

  5. Suggested paints: Titanium white and a transparent colour paint eg: phalo blue, french ultramarine, alizarin crimson. (student quality is fine.)

  6. 3 round oil paint brushes, different sizes with long handles

  7. A cheap canvas from Reject ship / The Wharehouse / $2 Shop etr.


Acrylic Painting

  4. Suggested paints: Some basic colours; french ultramarine,  cadmium red, lemon yellow, titanium white.

  5. 3 round paint brushes, different sizes with long handles

  6. A cheap canvas from Reject shop / The Warehouse / $2 Shop etr.


Watercolour

 For your first lesson you can use our materials simply bring the materials you already have and bring a piece of at least 190g paper. We can then discuss what your individual requirements are but here is the standard kit:

  1. 2 glass jars with lids

  2. Some old rags

  3. A palette (flat plastic lids are fine.)

  4. Suggested paints: Some basic colours; french ultramarine,  Alizarin crimzon, Indian yellow, titanium white

  5. 3 round watercolour brushes, different sizes

  6. About 2 sheets of A3 / 300gm watercolour paper

  7. A flat wooden board to work on


Paints in General

These colours are, BY FAR, the most used and useful in paints of all mediums:

For oil and watercolour: (T = transparent. S.T= Semi-transparent. O = Opaque)
Acrylic paints are all Opaque.

(The 7 basic must haves: )

 Titanium White. O
Yellow Ochre.  O
Burnt Sienna.  ST
Burnt Umber.  O
Alizarin Crimzon. T
Sap Green. T
French Ultramarine T OR Phalo blue. T

The other 5 useful colours are:

Violet Hue. T
Cadnium Yellow. O

Cadnium Red.  O
Cobalt and / or Cerilian blue.  O
Paynes Gray. O

And when you can:

Indian Yellow.  T
Viridian Hue. T
 Transparent white. T 

 


Life Drawing

For the first class just some... 

1. A1 newsprint paper 
2. Some sticks of charcoal  

Materials are available for sale in the class but
it will be cheaper for you to bring your own.

Later on you will need:

3. At least one HB graphite pencil.
4. Rubber and kneadable eraser
5. A1 cartridege paper or pad of paper.

The following things are extremely usefull but not essential:

6. A divider.
7. Stanly knife or sharpner.
8.. Ruler
9. Book for writing notes in.

10. Pill boxes from pharmacy or film containers for keeping crushed graphite or crushed charcoal.
11. Earbuds
12. Wet wipes or baby wipes for hands
13. Fixative
14. Pencil cases



Other possible materials needed and products that may be needed will be discussed at length in the workshops because everyone's  intentions and requirements vary.
