I see the visual arts as a material or physical manifestation of ethereal thought, feelings and ideas.

It is also a universal language, but one that is open to various interpretations by the viewer.

I use the human face as a vehicle to express and explore various aspects of society, myself and the character of the human mind, life and the soul.

The reasons why people have painted and created art over the centuries have varied greatly.

I see the visual arts as a potential voice, a means of expressing ideas and sending powerful messages. After all, it was theatre and visual art protests that planted some of the seeds of change amongst the large illiterate population of South Africa.

I also see art as a vehicle to be used to educate and help make people understand aspects of life, philosophy, feelings and other things that cannot be expressed in words.

My paintings celebrate the beauty, intrigue and joys of life as well as expressing some of life's negative aspects. I see darkness as a polarity.

Art in its varying forms is sometimes used as a weapon to make people afraid, forcing them to change or progress.

Art often reflects the current state of evolution of a particular society or culture. The history of art is the history of mankind. The history of my painting is also a history of myself more than any photo or journal.
