Preserving, Enhancing & Promoting the Environment of Montrose and surrounding areas
Montrose Environmental Group was formed in 1971 by a group of local residents who wanted to preserve the special character and features of the Montrose community. Since then the group has been active in preserving and protecting the community of Montrose and neighbouring localities such as Kalorama and Kilsyth South.
Today the group organises a number of locally based activities that provide practical environmentalism. Recent highlights include:
- Our ongoing Ivy Blitz campaign
- Coordinated opposition to the expansion of Montrose Quarry
- Guided walks in bushland areas
- Guided bird walks
- Monthly bushland walks in conjunction with working bees at Bungalook Conservation Reserve
- Monthly working bees at Heathfield Creek Reserve
- Bushland weeding in the Dandenong Ranges National Park, in conjunction with Parks Victoria
- Ongoing liaison with the Shire of Yarra Ranges and Melbourne Water
- Ongoing liaison with other environmental groups in the area
We believe in the importance of local action to support global issues. Our group is practically oriented and we welcome participation in meetings and events.
