AEMA's fifth annual conference will be held from 1-3 October 2008 at the Sebel Conference Suites, Charlotte Street, Brisbane, hosted by the Australian Catholic University.The period from late antiquity to the early middle ages was one of great social movement, of both individuals and people groups. How did people respond to demands made upon them for hospitality and charity by pilgrims, casualties of war, refugees, orphans, widows, those of other religions, the sick, the poor, itinerant monks and nuns, travelling traders and others?
Presenters will be invited to publish their papers in the refereed Journal of the Australian Early Medieval Association.

POSTGRADUATE/EARLY CAREER RESEARCHER BURSARIESThe Network for Early European Research has generously donated funds for 10 bursaries of $200 each for postgraduates and early career researchers. Please apply to the convenor for more details with a copy of your CV (b.neil@mcauley.acu.edu.au). Bursaries are only available to those presenting papers at the conference.
The Annual General Meeting of the Association will be held during lunch on the third day of the conference; lunch will be provided.
