International CFS/ME Awareness Day - May 12 2002
[Media Stories] [Guidelines Debate] [Blue Ribbons]

Media Stories

We have had excellent coverage of CFS/ME and individuals affected by CFS/ME throughout Victoria and Australia during Awareness Week May 5-12.
The release of Guidelines by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) on May 6th on how to treat CFS/ME also generated much media coverage.

Over 30 stories appeared in local papers and many thanks go to the individuals who told their stories and had their photos taken.

We also had coverage in Victorian and national newspapers and magazines, including the Herald/Sun, Age, Australian, Woman's Day.

We would appreciate any copies of CFS/ME articles you appeared in or saw during Awareness Week 2002 and throughout the year. Please contact the office.

Guidelines Debate

The release of the Guidelines on how to treat CFS/ME by the RACP generated much debate in the media. Mr Simon Molesworth and the ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association of Australia tackled the difficult subject by hitting the media prior to the release with a view that CFS/ME organisations were not entirely happy with the some content of the guidelines. Mr Simon Molesworth AM QC (President of both CFS/ME Victoria and the ME /Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association of Australia) conducted over 14 interviews on the guidelines before they were released. Stories that appeared in relation to this were:
Herald/Sun The Age SBS Radio
The Australian The Courier Mail ABC TV - Health Dimensions
The Sydney Morning Herald Sunday Times of Australia ABC Radio (most states)
3AW 7.30 Report ABC Time Magazine

(For further information on the Guidelines contact CFS/ME Victoria)
