Obedience

At Moorabbin our training instructors will show you how to train your dog, commencing with on-lead exercises and progressing to off-lead work.

Training is teaching your dog to respond to certain sounds and signals, the dog’s cues for certain action. Modern training methods use association and motivation – show, tell and do, with praise for honest effort.

Through practice and praise for success, we work through the basic commands : Sit - Heel – Come – Stay – Stand – Drop. Once these are mastered on lead, we can start off-lead work. Handlers wishing to trial their dogs will then progress to more advanced commands consistent with VCA trialling requirements.

We have a special class for Puppies 3-6 months, where we focus on socialisation as well as basic obedience.

At Moorabbin we do not use food as incentive in Obedience classes, preferring praise and encouragement through voice and touch.

Agility

Once your dog has met a certain standard in Obedience and is at least 15 months, you can start Agility classes. Here we spend time introducing the equipment to both handler and dog, gradually advancing to the full Agility Ring at trialling standard.
