PLANTS FOR YOU TO GROW

An edited extract from the MBCL Publication "Coast and Creek: A Mordialloc Environment Study" (1992).

All of the following plants are indigenous to the Mordialloc area within a 5 km radius of the town. The MBCL encourages local residents to plant a selection in your garden.

Those marked (c) are suitable for growing near the coast. The heights given are for average sized plants, but these will grow lower in areas exposed to salt-laden winds.

Indigenous plants are available from the Friends of Braeside Park who operate a nursery at Braeside Park.

Also, CRAG (Carrum Residents Action Group) run the Carrum Indigenous Nursery which is located at the corner of Thompson and Learmonth Roads in Patterson Lakes.  Call Anne Martin (Nursery Manager) for further information on 9776 0823.  CRAG always welcome new volunteers to help in the nursery.

For other local suppliers of native plants, please refer to the supplier directory at the back of the following book (which can be borrowed from Kingston library):  Scott, R. et al (2002) Indigenous Plants of the Sandbelt – A Gardening Guide for South-eastern Melbourne, Earthcare St Kilda.
