The road leading to the Cemetery is effectively a short, dead-end extension of Scott Street (the main street or the road to Hamilton), about 200m from the Hotel corner (back towards Hamilton). It is located on the bank of the Wannon River and is quite picturesque. There are picnic facilities adjacent to the Cemetery, but no BBQ's. There are no toilet facilities for the visitor. Just inside the pedestrian gate is a plaque listing all burials. A dyptheria epidemic in 1879-80 claimed the lives of many children and whole families were wiped out. The school's headmaster, Frank ROBERTS lost his wife and 4 children. The third headmaster of the Wannon National School, Mr. GRAHAM, drowned in the Wannon River in 1855 (adjacent to the Cemetery site).
