'Mantra Mix was written as a tribute to the profoundly liberating teachings of Buddhadharma and with an intention of making an East-West cross-cultural link.

To be able to do anything for His Holiness is such an honor because The Dalai Lama is such a complete embodiment of a human ‘being’; humble, warm, wise and compassionate. His humanness is totally inspiring.

His Holiness is the most familiar stranger you’ll ever meet.'

'Peoples struggling for freedom who strictly adhere to non-violence are rare today. The Tibetans are one of those rare peoples... The compassionate struggle of the Tibetan people, juxtaposed against the violent repression of the Chinese authorities is like night and day. It is the clearest example of brutality against compassion in the world today.'

'All of us in The Cake feel privileged to be a part of this album, not only to be involved in an important cultural statement in support of the Dalai Lama and the people of Tibet, but also to be alongside some of our favorite musical artists.

The people of Tibet have much in common with the injustices suffered by the East Timorese (Fretilin), the West Papuans (OPM) and of people here in Australia -the injustice that took the form of the cultural genocide of the Aboriginals.

The message is the same: We must learn about respect and support these intricate cultures and the people in their fight. We cannot turn a blind eye as we have done for far too long because these situations have a way of coming back at you.'

David Bridie.

'The Chinese invasion of Tibet and ensuing suppression of Tibetans is right up there on the Top Ten of current, stomach-turning injustices. I want to stand up here and be counted as someone who supports a Chinese withdrawl and the return of the Dalai Lama to the heartland of his people.'

'This is a song I originally wrote as a commentary on the demise of indigenous peoples. The situation in Tibet is another human rights tragedy. We have to move to stop it. I wanted to contribute to this album to help raise awareness about the plight of the Tibetan people.

The Dalai Lama with his non-judgmental, enlightening and positive words made me remember that there are ways of living and dealing with problems, small and great, other than with violence, intolerance and deceit. His simplicity and good humour is a wonderful compliment to his profundity and wisdom. He is the only constantly grinning man who you feel you can trust.'

Jenny Morris.

'The Dalai Lama is the greatest, most delightful being on this planet. He is the embodiment of compassion and the most I can aspire to in my life is to embody as much compassion as I can. Just imagine what might happen if everyone on the planet was going around mumbling the mantra of compassion... Om Mani Padme Hum'

'This is a gospel song we’ve been doing for a long time. We felt it was the most appropriate song we could contribute because its message is that people should be free to be free, anywhere in the world.

Everyone has the right to follow their own beliefs and to do whatever they want to do - as long as it doesn’t harm anyone else.

Everyone has the right to go about the business of their lives in peace and freedom and this is basically what the Dalai Lama himself stands for. He’s a good guy.'
