43 Mantas swimmers took part in the Annual Christmas Duck
at MAC. Swimmers chose their stroke to compete in over a 50m SC
knockout handicap event.
After a series of closely fought heats and semi-finals, the final eight were Catherine Huynh (breaststroke),
Aaron Andres (freestyle), Justin Huynh (freestyle), Vivianne Phung (freestyle),
Kyle Rodger (freestyle), Mei Mei Hong (breaststroke), Michelle Kim (breaststroke) and
Chloe Rose Anastasio (breaststroke).
In a very tight finish, 6yo Justin held off a charge by Mei Mei
about a body length in front of Vivianne just visibly in front of Aaron
who was half a body length in front of Catherine who in turn was half a body length in
front of Kyle and then came Chloe Rose and finally Michelle!
The Mayor of Maribyrnong, Cr. John Cumming, then presented major prizes to Justin (who just
happens to have his birthday on Christmas Day!),
and to Vivianne and Kyle who each won a semi-final to get into the final.
And then over 100 swimmers and their
families adjourned to Canning St Tea Gardens for the rest of the prizes and the Christmas BBQ and a photo shoot -
a successful day despite a coolish wind at the BBQ.
