Dear Sir / Madam
I am a graduate of Educational
Institution who has legally changed my name to
your name and also changed
my gender to male.
I am writing to request the issue of a replacement
Parchment for my
qualification obtained at
Educational Institution
during dates. While I
realise it is not the usual practice of the University to
issue replacement Degree Certificates I do hope you will
realise the implications of not doing so in this
particular situation. I am sure you are fully aware of
the human rights issues and the potential for indirect
discrimination, and would also point out that Victoria,
South Australia and New South Wales have introduced
legislation (which even provide for legal change of
gender on birth certificates) pertaining to
discrimination on the basis of gender identity.
Many Universities in the United Kingdom have
recognized the situation and have policies of re-issuing
Degree Certificates. They include; Oxford, Cambridge,
Birmingham, Bristol, Warick, London, York,
Wales,Nottingham, Durham, Staffordshire, Trinity College
Dublin, Aston and Sheffield.
The Royal College of Organists also re-issue
certificates.
The City and Guilds also re-issue certificates and the
London Board will re-issue O and A level certs.
All of my other official legal documents have been
changed, such as Birth Certificate, Drivers License,
Medicare records, Social Security records, Taxation
Department records and I posess a current Australian
Passport.
It is an expectation that academic certificates be
displayed in the work place.
Clearly the Governments (Federal and State) have
acknowledged the significance of the issue and will re
issue legal documents. I hope you will also be inclined
to do the same.
I have included certified copies of My Change of Name,
valid passport and a medical contact number regarding my
change of gender.
Yours Sincerely
