Projects

In working with the Equal Opportunity Commission of Victoria, the Gender Identity Reference Group have been unanimous in believing that the legal, health and education sectors should be dealt with first in regards to dealing with discrimination and human rights.

That almost covers everything really!

These project ideas are just that. They need the consultation, backing and commitment of the community to have any effect. If you have any ideas of your own that you wish to discuss please feel free to send them in via email for posting on this site. Your comments are most welcome.

1/ Gender Identity and the Education Sector in Victoria , Australia : A Strategy and Action Plan.

Note: Gender identity is male, female or intersex and is determined on the basis of "bonafide" self identification as a member of the relevant gender.

The aim of this strategy is to identify issues and develop strategies that strive to address them so that all individuals can participate within the education sector in an environment that is inclusive of all irrespective of their gender identity. At this stage only the issues have been developed.

There is a need to be flexible in accepting that dealing with gender affirmation can impact on the individuals ability to achieve their full potential. When an individual is able to participate in an education environment free from discrimination on the basis of their Gender Identity there is greater likelihood of the person reaching their full potential.

The intention of this evolving document is to identify and suggest possible solutions to identified areas of concern to Educational Organisations.

It is the intention of m.a.n. to make a copy of the completed strategy available to the Victorian Department of Education and other relevant authorities and organizations as may be identified during the development of this document.
