What's On

June-October 2009: STOP PRESS: Restoration Works on Malmsbury Mechanics Institute
The long-awaited repair works to our home began in July and were finished late October. We need a week to set ourselves back up again (1-6 Nov) and then we hope it will be business as usual on Tuesdays. Our open weekend (14-15 Nov) for the Malmsbury Village Fayre will also be going ahead as planned. To ensure you are not disappointed, please contact us if you wish to visit before the 14th November. Our thanks go the Macedon Ranges Shire Council and the Malmsbury Community Planning Group for their efforts in making the restoration works happen.

November 2009: Malmsbury Village Fayre
Another open-weekend is planned for the 14-15 November to co-incide with the Malmsbury Village Fayre on November 15. Hours of opening to be 9.30am until 4pm daily

April 2010: Malmsbury Arts and Music Festival
A low-key opening of our research rooms is planned to co-incide with this Festival if it runs again in 2010. Since there is usually an community Arts exhibition in the Mechanics Hall for this event research work could be confined to our front room so space will be limited. More information will be advertised as plans are finalised.

May 2010: Mount Alexander Shire Heritage Festival
Malmsbury Historical Society will once-again participate in this annual festival. With a Chinese/Immigration theme set for next year's festival we will redisplay our Chinese panels from our independant exhibition of November 2008 and attempt to have a book on the history of our local Chinese population completed in time for a book launch during the Festival. Thise event will also be held at the Mechanincs Institute, probably in mid-May 2010

Family Reunions. Malmsbury Gardens and the adjoining Town Hall are a popular place for holding family reunions. If you are planning a reunion and your ancestors were one-time residents of Malmsbury, would you like our Society to be open during the occasion? We can offer access to our records as well as photocopying. Please contact the secretary for further details or bookings.

If you are visiting Malmsbury to either conduct some research or attend a reunion and need some accommodation, why not try either the Malmsbury Hotel/Motel or any of the local B & Bs. The Malmsbury Village B & B is a self-contained unit right next door to the Historical Society and the Motel is only a few doors down. Other B & Bs such as Malmsbury Oak and Cloud End (Drummond North) are a bit further out of town but ideal for those with own transport and who like things a bit quieter. Food is available at the Malmsbury Bakery (Stables Pizzeria Fri-Sat only), Merchants of Malmsbury Cafe (Thur-Sun only), Malmsbury General Store and the Malmsbury Hotel.

And don't forget that petrol is available up the road at Taradale!!
