AUSIT - THE AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF INTERPRETERS AND TRANSLATORS INC.

AUSIT, the first and only national association for interpreters and
translators in Australia, was established in 1987. We are now a fully
independent association, incorporated in the Australian Capital Territory.

Our membership consists of I/T practitioners and others interested in the
development of the profession. AUSIT has branches in all States and
territories.

AUSIT membership offers:

1. A united front representing I/T practitioners in dealings with
government bodies, Australian and international associations in relation to
rights and entitlements, awards and conditions, new developments in the
field, I/T training etc.;

2. A source of contacts in the field and of information and advice;

3. Professional development (including workshops, conferences, seminars);

4. Advising members on remuneration rates that I/T's are currently being
paid;

5. A quarterly national newsletter plus an occasional national journal and
state newsletters;

6. I/T database and directory: more job opportunities through listing your
full details in the AUSIT directory.

Annual membership rates from July 1997 are:
$70 for practitioners with professional accreditation;
$50 for practitioners with paraprofessional accreditation;
$40 for non-accredited interested persons;
$35 for students enrolled in a NAATI-accredited course.
A $10 once-only joining fee applies to all categories of membership.
If you join between January and June, halve the appropriate rate and add the
joining fee. If joining between July and December, please pay the full rate
as we work on the financial year.

If paying from another country, please remit a bank draft in AUS dollars or
transfer the amount in AUS dollars to our account, which is called AUSIT, at
the Bank of Melbourne, 541 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne, Victoria 3004, Australia.
