(NEAMI)
WHO WE ARE:
NEAMI is a community managed organisation that provides psychosocial rehabilitation, workskills, education, support, advocacy and supported housing options to people with a psychiatric disability living in the North East of Melbourne.
NEAMI works with and on behalf of people with psychiatric disabilities to identify service gaps in the community, develop new services and to achieve community acceptance, protection and expression of the rights of people with psychiatric disabilities in the community.
The Committee of Management is comprised of 4-6 service users, 4-6 community representatives and 2 - 3 health professionals.
WHAT NEAMI PROVIDES:
Supported Housing:
- a range of long-term (12 months or longer) single & shared housing with a range of levels of support available to tenants.
Catch 23 (Day Centre Service):
- Day Centre activities including:-
Arts, Women's Group, Men's Group,
Outings & Trips. Located at:
42 Ethel Street, Thornbury.

Acorns (Day Centre & Workskills Service):
- Day Centre activities including:-
Arts & Crafts, Music, Outings & Trips.
Workskills Program

Ethnic Mental Health Program:
- information, support and education programs for caregivers and consumers of non-English speaking backgrounds. (NESB).
- promotion and development of culturally
relevant and accessible services.
Auspice Role:
- contact point for the Feenix Club (self-help group) operating in Heidelberg.
- advocacy on behalf of service users for increased support.
NEAMI advocates on behalf of people with psychiatric disabilities for their rights as set out under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Declaration on the rights of Disabled Persons.
