Member Training
Online Debating Tutorial - information on the various styles of debating used at Monash, and other debating techniques and issues.Member training has concluded for 2002. Thanks to our Member Training Officer, Carina Garland, for all her work in running training this year.
Member training this semester will focus on British Parliamentary (BP) style debating, which is used at the World Championships as well as at the Sydney Mini and Women's IV, and in the MAD Freehills Cup. BP is a very different style of debating that new members probably won't have seen before, involving four teams of two people in one debate, and Points of Information (so you can ask your opposition questions during their speeches). It's very interactive and lots of fun. This is a great chance for anyone who wasn't at training in Semester 1 to come along and get involved, and be trained by the best in the world.
Training will be held at 5pm in the Rotunda.
The Schedule for Semester 2 is as follows:
Monday 29th July - BP demonstration debate and discussion.
Monday 5th August - BP adjudication session.
Monday 12th August - BP practice night (debaters and adjudicators).Monday 2nd September - Analytical skills session.
Monday 9th September- Rights and Liberties matter session.
Monday 16th September - Religion and Principles matter session
Monday 23rd September - Feminism matter session.
