The Longwarry Fire Brigade was registered with the Country Fire Authority on 6th January 1945, however the town had a bush fire brigade previous to this of which no record have been found to date except for a photo of the brigade with a horse and cart in 1905. It was only due to major fires at the time that the government ordered a structured fire service for country Victoria.

Labertouche Brigade moved from being based in Drouin to being based in Longwarry in October 1946

A Membership fee of 5 shillings was introduced to all members as a way of raising funds

In March 1956 the Fire brigade changed their name from 'Longwarry Volunteer Fire Brigade' to 'Longwarry & District Rural Fire Brigade'

April 1956 it was decided that three blows on the Factory whistle would mean there was a fire. ( this soon adapted to 2 blows for house fire, 3 blows for bush fire ).

The Post Office was first used as a 'dispatch' to call Brigade members in the event of a fire in February 1961

1962 was a busy year for the Brigade, receiving a new Austin Truck to replace the 1938 Fargo, building a new station
Ladies Auxiliary

The Brigades first Radio Communication Transceiver was purchased in 1964
In 1968 after two years of fund-raising the station was extended

The beginning of the 1970's saw the start of construction for a toilet block and workshop, this took eleven years to build.
A Fire Reporting System, F.R.S phones, were installed in 1976 to a few members homes to shorten the delay in assembling a crew
1978 and the latest fire truck, an International, arrived to replace the Austin

The early 80's saw the Brigade purchase a Suzuki four wheel drive for a support vehicle

Extra land was obtained in 1987 for a new truck bay to house the new vehicles

Pagers were supplied by the Ladies Auxiliary and the Buln Buln Shire in the Early 90s

This is the Longwarry & District Fire Station which currently houses both our tankers the and the support vehicle as Labertouche station where Tanker 2 is normally kept is being used as a Recovery Centre after the Black Saturday Fires..

For a support vehicle we have a ____ with a new tray lockable canopy design which holds __ lts. of water in it's own tank and has it's own Honda pump which can be used to fill trucks.
In mid 1999 the Auxiliary ran its first market and from there has grown steadily to provide funds for the brigade. Since then the market has become one of if not the most successful market in Gippsland and stalls are quite often booked well in advance. Crowds of 2000+ people attend our market days with a variety of stalls to buy from ranging from fresh, produce, clothes, tools to knick knacks.
