Donation of Teenage Talking Books
The presentation of CD-rom and video books to the libraries from the Friends took place on 11
November. The materials were bought from funds raised in the regular library book sales and the
purchases were in response to a suggestion from the community.see review below
The ceremony was well attend by City Council staff, visitors and Friends of the Libraries and most importantly by teenagers who benefit
from these additions to the libraries listings.
Library Bags
Another piece of good news. The Friends have just heard that we have been successful in obtaining
funding from the Council under the Community Grants Program to purchase environmentally friendly
strong calico bags that we sell to Library users. These bags will be available in the New Year.
Friends visit to the State Library of Victoria
Other activities include a visit to the State Library of Victoria. Kathy Miller showed us the wonderful
improvements made to this building, particularly the new glass dome ceiling. We learned all about the
great resources available to the public all for the simple effort of becoming registered as a Library
user.
Read a book, old newspapers, find relative details, listen to music, play chess. You can do it all
at the State Library by just logging on to www.statelibrary.vic.gov.au and open up a world to yourself.
We do intend to do more “fun things” in 2004 as well as continuing to assist our local libraries.
