24 Riders greeted the starter in the mid week race conducted by the Latrobe Valley Cycling Club. This week saw a handicap race conducted which saw four groups of riders leave at different intervals. The limit makers had a 10 min head start on the next group, then a further two minutes back to the "chopping block" bunch and a further 1 1/3 min back to the "scratch bunch" The scratch bunch worked hard on the way to the Thoms bridge turn where they picked up the "chopping block" bunch and set about chasing down the remaining riders.

By the time the riders passed the round about at the top of the mill, the race was altogether except for the two riders riding from the limit mark who were continuing to work solidly as they were aware that the gap they had on the chasing riders was going to be big enough for them to be able to hold off the charge. Once the large group had passed by the mill, the bunch decided to sit up and no one was willing to continue to drive the group to the finish. First Joel Pearson rolled off the front of the group, once caught, Rob Reid attacked the bunch, Joel Pearson soon bridged over to Reid and the duo set about their own chase of the leaders, Phil Magee was also in pursuit but was unable to bridge the gap.

Meanwhile at the front of the race, Dave Mander and Helmut Kolab lined up for the finish with Dave Mander recording the first victory of his cycling career, followed closely by Helmut Kolab. Pearson and Reid work hard to the finish with Reid taking third place and fastest time.
