Tyers 7 November 2001

Race two of the Summer Series was a scratch race. Once again 19 riders faced the starter. The riders were divided into A and B grade. 9 riders started in A grade with the pace hotting up as the riders headed up past the mill. Grey McLachlan kept the pace on heading down the hill towards Traralgon before sweeping left onto Scrubby Lane. The short sharp pinch took its toll when the pace was kept high. Glen Gibson and Rob Reid made a small break from the field and kept clear to the finish with Reid taking the win from Glen Gibson and Grey McLachlan in third after a valiant attempt to rejoin the front two.

B grade started a couple of minutes behind the A grade bunch and was soon reduced as the pace was kept high on the way to Tom's Bridge with the average at 40km/h. The bunch worked well around the back of the mill and in towards Traralgon. There was a flurry of attacks as the group headed around Scrubby Lane and onto the Tyers Road but all attempts to upset the group failed. By the time the group turned into the finish straight they were starting to stretch out. The long drag to the finish caught a few riders out and it was the more experienced rider in Vic Spunner who finished the race in brilliant fashion to hold off a charging Ian Draper and Tony Hiriart.
