Tyers 31 October 2001 The first race of the series saw 19 riders face the starter in a 26km handicap. The riders were split into three groups with the fastest riders heading off last. The wind was howling but the limit group rode really well to keep a good gap to the second and third groups. Once with the tail wind, the limit group was able to ride smoothly and consistantly to hold of all the other chargers. In a bunch sprint, Glen Trevorrow showed a clean pair of heels to Paul Fehlberg and Daryl Griggs in third. The scratch bunch was down on numbers and failed to make up any significant time. Fastest time was taken by Glen Gibson.
