38th Gippsland 3 Day Cycling Tour
Queens Birthday Weekend 9-11 June 2001

56 Senior and 23 Junior cyclists tackled wet conditions on Saturday at Lindenow. On Sunday the sun shone but the hills beckoned at Leongatha. Monday saw cold cloudy conditions at Darnum. All this added up to very interesting, tough and close racing over the 3 days. Latrobe Valley participants were: A Grade - Robert Reid, Alan Timmer-Arends; B Grade - Alan Beveridge, Wayne Collins, David Gafa, David Shanahan; C Grade - Rodney Ashworth, Steve Rienierts.

Warragul cyclist David Salton won the 38th Gippsland 3 Day Cycling Tour. Salton won 4 of the 5 stages of the race to narrowly defeat Warragul club mate Murray Fenwick by 41 seconds. Third place went to Robert Reid of the Latrobe Valley Club and fourth went to Kel Boers of Bairnsdale.

In the Junior Tour Keiran Love of Leongatha also won 4 of the 5 Stages on offer to take out a convincing win. Daniel McConnell of Bairnsdale took out the 5th Stage to move into second overall. Third was Simon Clarke of Carnegie.

Results of other grades were:

Senior B, 1st - John Salton of Warragul (father of David). 2nd - Wayne Collins of Latrobe Valley. 3rd - Mike Renehan of Bairnsdale.

Senior C, 1st - Lyndon Watt of Warragul. 2nd - Ross Johnson of Bairnsdale. 3rd - Peter Bailey of Warrgul.

Junior B, 1st - Sam Bell of Leongatha. 2nd - Ben Kryzlick of Bairnsdale. 3rd - Michael Pridmore of Leongatha.

Junior C, 1st - Michael Downing of Carnegie. 2nd - Julian Jansen of Leongatha. 3rd - Nick Aitken of Leongatha.
