Programs

Our program aims to develop and extend each child's individuality - socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.

Children at Legend Park Pre-School, between the ages of 3 and 5 years of age, are best able to learn through a mix of informal and planned activities and experiences.

As children vary in stages of development, we believe that each child has different needs, and our acceptance of these is shown in the broad range of experiences offered at Legend Park Pre-School. The activities are chosen for their versitility so they provide unlimited learning experiences and can be used at different levels.

The role of our staff is to create a learning environment based on the needs and interests of each child. All activities are carefully planned by the teacher according to these developmental needs.

Kindergarten Program (3 year old)

The program consists of a variety of indoor and outdoor activities which reflects the philosophy of learning through play. Together with the open ended individual and small group activities, all children are encouraged to participate in discussion, music and movements, games, and stories.

Goals set for the children are to:

• Settle and demonstrate a trusting relationship with the staff
• Develop their social skills by building positive relationships with peers through play
• Form positive self-esteem and display an awareness of own strengths
• Learn through exploring the world around them
• And most importantly, to have fun!

To achieve these goals, the program for the three year old group will be developed according to both individual and group observations of the childrens developmental level. Different themes will be introduced into the monthly program, such as seasons, multicultural holidays, special occasions, and topics raised from the childrens interests.

Our three year old program can accommodate up to 33 children on a rotating basis. We have three groups of 11 children, with two groups attending a session at a time. Each child will attend a maximum of 5 hours per week. Sessions for 2009 are as follows:

To be eligible to attend our kindergarten program, your child must turn 3 by the 30th April in the year attending kindergarten and preferably be toilet trained.

Your child must be 3 years of age before they commence the program. Parents are required to pay full fees if a place is being held for a child who is waiting to turn 3 years of age.

Preschool Program (4 year old)

Our program is based on the 'learning through play' philosophy, where an emergent style of teaching focuses on both the individual and group interests of the children. Through constant observation, our staff strive to provide experiences that will challenge and stimulate learning whist extending the curiosity of the children. Reflections of the program are written up in the form of individual portfolios and learning stories, which allows families to read about the experiences and provide input as desired.

Our four year old program can accommodate up to 36 children on a rotating basis. We have three groups of 13 children, with two groups attending a session at a time. Each child will attend a maximum of 12 hours per week. Sessions for 2009 are as follows:

To be eligible to attend our preschool program, your child must be 4 years of age by the 30th April in the year attending preschool.

Enrolments

Parents of prospective kindergarten program (3 year old) children and preschool program (4 year old) children must submit an enrolment form through the Central Enrolment Scheme through the Monash City Council. This form can be accessed via the following link:

Please note: Participation in the three year old program does not guarantee a spot in the four year old program.

Fees

The fees for 2009 are as follows:

Kindergarten (3 year old): $275 per term
Preschool (4 year old): $260 per term

Discounts are available for mulitple births and Healthcare Card holders.
