About LPFB
Launching Place and Don Valley are in Victoria's Upper Yarra Valley
region, and sit at the foothills of the Great Dividing Range. Large
tracts of temperate eucalypt forests exist in this part of Australia, with
Don Valley being bordered by the Yarra Ranges National Park and water catchment
areas. Neighbouring brigades include Hoddles Creek, Woori Yallock,
Yarra Junction and Badger Creek.
Over
the past 10 years, residential areas of Launching Place have gradually
expanded and now contain a large proportion of the areas population.
Major assets in Launching Place and Don Valley include:
Originally
known as Don Valley Rural Fire Brigade, LPFB has been helping to create
a safer community for more than 50 years. At the moment, LPFB has
around 30 members who are all volunteers. Not all members are firefighters,
as some help with administration while others provide support during incidents
in the form of providing meals and making sure brigade facilities are available
when required. Other members who are not active firefighters deal
with communications from the main fire station (ie. operating the base
radio and dealing with phone calls etc.). Support volunteers are
essential during major incidents, and are as important as the people who
actually fight fires.
LPFB has two fire stations;
a main station in Don Valley and a Sub-station in Launching Place which
house 3 fire appliances (2 tankers and a support vehicle). Volunteers
can be responded at any time of the night or day, and are alerted by pagers
and a fire siren.
