Loddon Murray 2000 plus wins major tourism and business award

tourism award photo Loddon Murray 2000 plus has won the 1999 Loddon Powercor Tourism Business Award for local tourism and development. The Loddon Shire presents the award to a business or organisation contributing to tourism and development within the region.

Loddon Murray 2000 plus Executive Officer, Noel Grant accepted the award at a ceremony in Inglewood last week.

Noel Grant praised the work of the Loddon Murray 2000 plus committee.

"This award recognises the valuable contribution that Loddon Murray 2000 plus is making to the region. Our committee has put together a great strategy; the leadership program, business planning program, enterprise development packages for landholders and cultural development program are producing real benefits for the region, he said."

Loddon Murray 2000 plus is a community organisation overseen by a committee of local people with expertise in farming and rural business. Their overall aim is to create a viable and productive future for the region.

Noel Grant said that over 350 local landholders have attended Loddon Murray 2000 plus business planning information days this year.

"We've had a terrific response from landholders. The information days are the first step towards completing a business plan. Business planning helps landholders to assess the future viability of their enterprises and think about making changes.

"They may also be eligible for Enterprise Incentive Development/Redevelopment Assistance, Interest Rate Subsidies or Training Assistance," he said.

Noel Grant said it was a great assistance to work with a pro-active council and specifically thanked the Mayor, Councillor John Donaldson, the CEO Craig Niemann and Economic Development Manager Peter Kulich for their support.

"The Shire shares the goal of the Loddon Murray 2000 plus strategy in creating a positive identity for the region," he said.

The Boort Development Committee, Wedderburn Tourism Committee and the Newbridge Progress Association were finalists for the award.
