the leadership group
Each year 22 - 24 enthusiastic women and men are brought together from across the region (and beyond) to be informed, challenged and motivated. Selection is based on applicant's interest and involvement in the community, locally and in the wider region.
The program aims to gather applicants from a broad range of backgrounds (farming, business, arts, local government, industry, health, education & community). This diversity includes geographic location, occupation, age, experiences, interests, activities, etc.
the year's program
Develops a carefully structured series of workshops, activities, tours, field trips and events throughout the program.
Employs a wide range of diverse and different leaders, facilitators, presenters, artists and performers throughout the program.
Includes 4 specific "leadership weekends" which focus on personal and group leadership development, leading to the planning and implementation of leadership projects.
Provides regular opportunities to develop and build personal leadership skills, such as public speaking, effective communication, working in groups, and conflict resolution.
Involves approximately two sessions per month, from February through to October each year.
Is issues based, focussing on themes such as health, regional development, youth, the environment, tourism, arts & culture and other areas relevant to the region.
Provides opportunities for group discussion and to question presenters on a wide range of subjects.
Involves travel throughout the region for workshops and programs sessions - from small towns to larger centres.
Operates within a confidentiality policy, which enables open and honest discussions between presenters and group members.
Includes opportunities for partners and families to be involved in program sessions. Childcare can be arranged for participants.
By using a variety of experiences throughout the LMCLP, the aim is to challenge mindsets and barriers, which limit the Loddon Murray region's potential to progress and to foster more imaginative rural leadership.

quotes from participants...
"I have got more from this program than from any other form of training that I have completed. I am now more aware of our community's strengths and weaknesses. There are many threats, but also enormous potential for growth within our region."
Bill Heslop - Barham (1998 LMCLP)
"My eyes have been opened, my ideas challenged, my endurance tested, my mind expanded and my heart touched. This has been a fabulous way to learn about the region, develop contacts from all over the State, and to meet and share it all with a wonderful group of people."
Lorri Lambert - Swan Hill (1998 LMCLP)
"The program is an experience of life in our region and the dynamic and positive future we all have if we work as one and respect our differences. With 23 participants of diverse backgrounds and beliefs, coming together to learn and share a vision has been an exhilarating experience."
