YOUTH  -  NEW GENERATIONS

        The role of the Club's New Generations Committee, previously called Youth Committee, is to plan, organise, co-ordinate, assist and support youth programs in our area, and oversee the provision of  Youth programs implemented by the Rotary Club of Lilydale.

        In particular, the role of the Club's New Generations Committee is to manage programs for youth, supported by the Club.

        The Club's main youth activities cover the following :-

  •   Local Literacy & Numeracy Mentoring program

This is a Literacy and Numeracy program where older children assist younger children in literacy and Numeracy. It involves local Primary and Secondary Schools and was initiated in early 2004.

  •   The Bridge Unleashed  - Bridge Builders Program

The Bridge Builders is a not for profit Community focused organization committed to directly providing early intervention, prevention and relief programs to disadvantaged young people and their families through the establishment of community initiatives. They seek to create a positive environment where all people can feel safe and access the support they require.

It is the intention to provide an indoor skateboarding and entertainment centre called "The Bridge – Lilydale".

  •   Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program for community youth leaders. Young people from 18 to 26 are chosen for their leadership potential to attend an all-expenses-paid seminar, camp, or workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice. The camp will run in December, details will be sent to the Club. Every RYLA program covers the following core topics:

  • Fundamentals of leadership Ethics of positive leadership

  • Importance of communication skills in effective leadership

  • Problem-solving and conflict management Rotary's purpose and service to the community

  • Building self confidence and self-esteem Elements of community and global citizenship

  •   Rotary Youth Enrichment of Program (RYPEN)

The Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment [RYPEN ] is a three day seminar for participants aged between 14 and 17 years of age. Awardees are sponsored and paid for by Rotary Clubs throughout District 9810. The RYPEN Seminar is conducted by a Rotary Club on behalf of the District Governor and is required to comply with the guidelines for a RYPEN Program. The program is designed to demonstrate Rotary’s commitment in Vocational Service to our younger generation. 

RYPEN programs cover the following range of topics:

  • Communication 

  • Tolerance 

  • Drugs and alcohol

  • Police, the Law and You

  • Physical Fitness 

  • Job Seeking 

  • Morals and Ethics and Where Religion is part of that element of life 

  • Social Skills

The candidates selected are young people who satisfy the following criteria:

  •  Will benefit from the learning experience

  •  Not necessarily the highest achievers or outstanding youth leaders of the locality

  • Have potential to progress to a leadership role with added confidence and training.

  •   National Youth Science Forum

The Australian National Youth Science Forum is a Summer School and has the target candidates of Year 11/12 science students, who have shown outstanding potential in a field of science. There are 200 positions each year, for all Australian students. Convened in Canberra it was the joint initiative of a number of Rotary clubs, the Canberra Development Board and a large number of scientific institutions around Australia.

  •   Summer Science program

The Summer Science program is sponsored by Siemens. The Siemens Science Experience is a fun three days of hands-on science activities in university laboratories and lecture theatres for Year 9 students. The cost covers meals and transport costs. 

In each program you will:

  • be introduced to a range of wonders of science and technology 

  • hear leaders in science, technology and engineering

  • meet new friends 

  • learn about careers in science, technology and engineering.

  •   Rotaract

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaractors also often spearhead the formation of Interact clubs.   A Roster for Rotarians is being formulated.  The Board has approved funding for the Rotaract "Training Weekend"

  •  Youth Exchange

The Club has an incoming overseas Exchange student from France and currently has an out-going student in Germany.
