WHO WE ARE

Liberty is an independent non-government organisation which was established in Melbourne to "offer a means of expression to those people in all parties who believe that social progress may be achieved only in an atmosphere of liberty".

Liberty is committed to the defence and extension of human rights and civil liberties. It seeks to promote Australia's compliance with the rights and freedoms recognised by international law.

OUR WORK

Education

Much of our work is directed towards educating the community about the importance of civil liberties and human rights.

Campaigning

A major focus of Liberty's work involves liaison with Parliamentarians to prevent erosion of rights and freedoms or to enhance their protection. This includes making submissions, conducting law reform campaigns and meeting with members of Parliament.

Liberty is an independent organisation. To continue its work, it relies on the support of members as well as donations, grants from progressive philanthropic trusts and income from the sale of our publications.
