THE LEARNINGGUILD CERTIFICATE

Full details of the twice-yearly examination for the Learningguild Certificate in Reasoning and Expression are set out in our green leaflet, which will be sent on request by John or Margaret Howes (contact us).

The leaflet contains four commendations of the examination, including this one received in 2010 from Peter Singer, philosopher and Professor at both Princeton and Melbourne:

To get an A, or an upper B, in the examination for the Learningguild Certificate shows abilities to write clearly, reason well, and see what is wrong with unsound arguments.  Across a wide range of fields, these skills are in short supply, urgently needed and yet seldom directly tested.  I recommend both to students and to report-writers that they visit the Learningguild website and take up the challenge of this exam.

Forty-eight papers have been set between September 1987 and March 2011, and those papers, and reports on many of the examinations, are obtainable individually for $2.20 each. A set of two recent papers and reports on them will be posted with the green leaflet on receipt of ten 60c stamps. The normal months of taking the examination in 2011 will be March and September, but permission may in some cases be given for taking it somewhat later.

Those Learningguild members who wish may receive without charge recent exam papers and reports when these become generally available.
