About the Lockington & District Living Heritage Complex

The Lockington & District Living Heritage Complex is a local history museum and resource centre, as well as a community venue. It is staffed entirely by volunteers and relies for funds on entry fees, fundraising events, donations and occasionally special grants.

The Complex was officially opened in April 1997. Since then it has attracted several hundred visitors each year and hosted such community events as the annual Vintage Tractor Rally in April, and regular Old Fashioned Film Nights.

At the Complex, you can view the collection of local history memorabilia, research the history of Lockington & District or join in the many events held there. Devonshire morning and afternoon teas are available. Delicious luncheons are served during events or by prior arrangement.

The Complex consists of two former shop buildings, a relocated Railway Station building, and reconstructions of a straw-roofed farm shed, a shearing shed, a cow shed and a Blacksmith's shop. These house a large collection of artifacts relating to the history of the township and district.

There are plans to extend the Complex to accommodate more farm machinery and horse drawn vehicles. In the future interactive displays will be introduced and a project featuring the late Kevin Sarre, who was a local, national and international shearing legend, is being prepared. There are also plans to host travelling exhibitions. We will keep you up-to-date with these projects through our 'News' page.
