LOCKY SCHOOL ACHIEVE ENERGY BREAKTHROUGH
Congratulations to our school - pupils,
teachers and supporting parents - on their great achievement at Maryborough
with the RACV Energy Breakthrough defying the adverse conditions of heat,
wind, rain and mechanical issues. The Locky Lemurs Team won the Design and
Construction component and the Overall Champions Trophy for which they
received a $500 gift voucher, plus medallions, a perpetual shield, framed certificate
and trophy. All their hard efforts were well
rewarded.

LOCKINGTON
& DISTRICT LIVING HERITAGE COMPLEX
Website: Heritage Complex Web Site Hello Everyone! It’s hard to believe that
we’ve almost reached the end of another year. The Heritage Complex Committee’s
Christmas celebration on 23 November went really well. About
twenty-five members and family and friends travelled by bus to Stanhope with
Secretary, Bob Watts at the wheel (Thanks Bob!). They then sat down
to a delicious “bring and share” tea (Our members are the greatest in the
food department – Thanks to all who provided the meal!) before spending an interesting evening
checking out the memorabilia at Stanhope’s privately owned and run
museum. The extent and range of items on display
is amazing. The owner is an experienced collector,
attending clearing sales and the like right across the region for many years
now. His collection includes a range of household items, general tools, shop
fittings, and more besides. If it’s something you remember from school,
at the post office or in grandpa’s garden, there is a good
chance you will find a very similar object on exhibition right there. It
might even be the same one! Our committee visited the museum several
years ago and it was well worth the second trip. Throughout the holiday period, the
Complex will continue to be open each Sunday from times during the week but, if you do
happen to have visitors who would like to see over the Complex on a week
day, it may be worth ringing one of the committee members to see if
something can be arranged. Please remember that our committee
members are all volunteers who have their own family and other commitments,
but we do like to help out if and when we can. In the local history department this
fortnight, I thought I would look for something Christmas-related, but I
evidently didn’t have this theme in mind when I did the original research. I found only a very small snippet that
happened to be on the same page as some irrigation material. It comes from
the Rochester Express, 24 December, 1889, and it’s headed
“Pickings – by the old Possum”. It is incomplete but it reads, in part: -
“These jolly Christmas holidays throw one completely out of gear. Here am I
trying to write two days before the usual time, and actually nothing to write
about, except it be the savagery of drunks, or the pluck of our policemen.
The Sergeant had a high old time of it the other evening, with a
fellow for whom he wanted to provide a … (This part is missing –
Perhaps it was ‘a night’s accommodation’?) … He says it was the hardest hour’s
work he had since leaving the ‘ould dart’. It is estimated that
fourteen tons of main strength, and a bucketful of perspiration were expended in safely
housing the man, who apparently did not appreciate the kind
attention of the gentleman in blue. But he got there just the same
…” Hopefully, I’ll find something much more uplifting before next Christmas! We at the Heritage Complex wish you a very happy Christmas and New Year. ‘Bye until next time, Marg O’Brien. On behalf of my fellow Councillors,
management group and hard-working staff of the Shire of Campaspe, I would
like to wish all residents a wonderful and safe Christmas and we look
forward to working with you in 2010 to make our community even better. Council’s Customer Service Centres
will close at December and re-open on In an emergency, please contact 1300 666 535. Cr Peter Williams, Mayor CHRISTMAS
WASTE & RECYCLING COLLECTIONS Household waste and recycling collections
over the Christmas New Year period will continue as normal with
the exception of green waste collections. Transfer stations and landfills will be
closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. IMMUNISATION
SESSIONS Available for adults, children and infants as follows: Thursday, 17 December Lockington Bush Nursing Centre Swine flu vaccination now available at a cost of $15. Health Care Card holders are free. Bookings required. Gwen Fiedler on Thursday December 3
received a certificate of appreciation from RSL Headquarters of the
Victorian Branch and Rochester RSL for her services on ANZAC
and Remembrance Days for many years. (Ed. Without Gwen's prompting and of
course her work with her late husband Bill, I'm sure these days in
Lockington would not have been revered in the way it has.) A big thank you to Helen Kilsby who for
many years has been part of the team who counts and distributes the Locky
News to depots throughout the town. Helen has had to relinquish this job and
Fay Haines has kindly offered to take it on. The office Bearers for 2009 – 2010
are, President - Joy Weller; Secretary - Val Read; Treasurer – Margaret
Fiedler; Craft Leader - Elaine Mitchell; International Officer - Ivy Douglas. The
Echuca group president Val Allen congratulated the incoming office bearers
and wished the branch all the best for the ensuring 12 months, Val then
awarded the aggregate prizes for the competition over the last 12 months. A flower from your Garden - 1st Val Read,

members returned and other local branches were represented.
President Joy Weller welcomed all present and reflected on the first
meeting when 30 local ladies gathered at the Milloo Hall on the President Mrs Edna Stewart from Deniliquin
chaired the meeting that day when Mrs Joy Weller was elected
president of the newly formed Milloo branch and Mrs Annice Jensen filled the
position of secretary, both were present at our 40th Birthday. The beautiful
cake was cut by two of the foundation members, Mrs Doris Rankin and Mrs
Annice Jensen. Entertainment was supplied by Miss Florrie Bickley and Mrs
Joyce Griffin of Campaspe branch C.W.A. The
Reciting of the C.W.A. Motto brought a memorable day to a close. Milloo CWA wishes all readers a Happy Christmas and
New Year. (Report

seaming around. Once again we were off to a bad start
with us being 2 for 6 and Greg going out for a duck. Ryan
McMinn and Paddy Gardiner steadied the ship for a while
before we lost 2 more quick wickets to find our selves at 4 for
39. We continued to lose wickets at short intervals until
Jason Turner & Lachi Collins came to the crease getting us to 7 for 114
off 40 over’s. Lachi top scored with 23 not out and
Jason 21 not out. The score was defendable if we were able
to take wickets. We got off to a good start when we had United 2 for 13, and
then at 5 for 55 we where right in the game with our bowlers bowling good
line and length. We fought all the way to the end where they finished up at 8
for 116. We bowled and fielded well but just needed to have a few more runs
on the board. The best of the bowlers were Greg with 2 for 15, Jake Gardiner
2 for 18 and Jason Turner 2 for 26. B Grade loss the toss and United elected
to bat. They posted a score 9-191 off 40 over’s. The best of bowlers
Pete Gardiner 2 for 17, Trav Mancer 2 for 20 and Ben Docking 2 for 53 but
with such a big score it was going to be hard for our boys to chase down. We lost wickets consistently, ending up
being bowled out for 93 with the best of the batsmen being Ben Docking with
21. Hopefully the boys can improve for the
next game. C Grade started the 20/20 game with us
played Rochy Tigers. We won the toss and elected to bat, and posted 8 for 115
off our 20 over’s with W Pitson top scoring with 23, Andrew Cochrane 22
not out. Which is a good score. Tigers got off to a good start at 2 for
50 then they lost wickets at regular intervals. Coming into the last over
they need 9 runs to win. Chad Jones was bowling, they got 2
singles early in the over leaving 6 to tie on the last ball of the game. Well
they hit a 6 off the last ball of the day to leave the game tied! It will be
interesting when these 2 teams meet again this year. Round 1 off the 20/20 comp was washed out
and rescheduled to be played Tuesday 8th of Dec . Round 2 was against Rochy United at
Bamawm. We won the toss and elected to bat where we got off to a good start
with Brodie Collins & Josh out for just over 100. After doing so
well early on it was what we needed. Our bowlers bowled well but we did not
have enough runs to defend with United running away winners. It was good to
see quite a few spectators come and have a look. Coming Events: 12th December: Day 2 against Bunnaloo B
Grade @ Bamawm Recreation (Bunnloo 2 for 13 chasing 229) 19th December: 1 Day Game against Echuca

P-12 School; Kath Tointon, formerly of Bamawm UCA, is now CEO of
Bendigo Uniting Care. Both were ordained deacon in the Anglican
Church at St Andrew’s [you may have seen it on the front page
of the Bendigo Addy]. He appointed them as pioneer ministers
– people tasked with taking the church in new and innovative
directions. This brings the total to five, the number of women who have been ordained in the Anglican Church out
of this area in the last ten years! All but one have come from other
denominations. It is clear that this place has produced five women of character; five women who are true
spiritual leaders. The broader Church has recognised this by ordaining them. What are you blokes doing…Cheers!
Fr Simon Robinson 16 vehicles from the Murray Goldfields
Chapter of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia Inc. visited
Lockington on the weekend of Dec. 4-6, to celebrate our Christmas break-up. We were taken on a
town walk to see grocers, butchers (we all purchased some prize winning
sausages), op-shop then over to a marvelous building, the Heritage Centre. During our “happy
hour” Des told us about the town and its fantastic volunteers,
including our own members Grace & Dan, who have achieved so much over the years. A lot of towns could copy
this town! Our Christmas Dinner, provided by the Heritage Centre, on Saturday
night was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Sunday, after our morning A G M , w e wandered
down to the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Bush Nursing Centre for
barbeque, music & magic. We will be back for our 2010 Christmas break-up
