KOOL CLUB HELPS THOSE LESS FORTUNATE
Some of the Kool club members testing out the motorcycles with some members of Central Victorian Riders Motorcycle Students of the Lockington After School Program "Kool Club" have taken up the challenge to donate worthwhile items of clothing food and toys to the Bendigo Motorcycle toy run to be held on the 5th of December. Members of Central Victorian Riders motorcycle club were present to give the kids a small speech and presentation as to the aims of the toy run and how the donations are collected and distributed. The Central Victorian Riders motorcycle club were invited to attend and give the presentation at the behest of local Minister of the Anglican Church, Father Simon Robinson, who runs the club. Children were asked if they thought they
would like to donate something to be taken down to Donations from the toy run are distributed in this case to St Vincent de Paul Society Bendigo, cash donations from raffles and collections are given to IGA supermarkets who in return give St Vincent De Paul food vouchers to double the value of the cash received ie $2.00 for every $1.00, meaning that the maximum amount of the donation is able to be used and thus avoid any administration fees. LOCKINGTON & DISTRICT LIVING
HERITAGE COMPLEX
Website: Heritage Complex Web Site
Hello Everyone! Members of the Heritage Complex Committee
held their Christmas gathering on Monday evening, History-wise, this fortnight, I thought we
might look at an item from the Rochester Express, dated It is headed, “PANNOOBAMAWM – From our Correspondent”: - “The hay has all been made and most of it carted in. The
appearance of the plains has quite changed during the past fortnight due to
the appearing of immense stacks of hay in all directions. The amount cut this year is far
in excess of that of last season. This is mainly owing to the appearance of
rust, but largely also to the prevalence of wild oats. The reapers and binders
are working at full pressure, and their monotonous sounds are heard from
early dawn till dark in the adjacent paddocks, as the wheat crops are being
levelled for the threshing machine. The amount to be run through the thresher will be
very large this season, and that for stripping comparatively less.” Rust in wheat caused
some headaches that season, and a major conference was proposed to deal with
the matter.
However, there were some who thought they had the answer. The Rochester Express, The second letter revealed more, without
seeking monetary
reward. It was written to the Daily Telegraph: - “Rust in wheat is undoubtedly caused by the
bursting of the straw, which has been charged with a greater quantity of sap
than the ear can absorb.
I believe a very good preventative is the application of a hundred-weight of
lime and salt to the acre. If the soil naturally partakes of the character of
either lime or salt, the addition of the other will be beneficial. Another fault of
our farmers, especially in the richer lands of The 1890, reported: - “The conference on rust in wheat has been finally arranged, and will meet in the Board Room of the Lands Department on Monday next. It will be attended by eight representatives, two from Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria respectively, and is expected to last a couple of days. It is not expected that any definite conclusion will result from its labours, but it is probable that subcommittees will be appointed……..” I wonder how it went. That’s all from me for this issue. ‘Bye until next time, Marg O’Brien. I would like to thank my family for my
lovely 90 birthday lunch in Please accept this as my personal thank you to the wonderful loving and caring people of Lockington and district community. Many thanks, Jessie Dinsdale. The day was a huge success as there were 38 sites of all kinds of wonderful second hand goods, clothes, toys, plants, cakes, preserves, cards, cleaning products, cooking and even the energy break through vehicles on display. Despite the extreme heat, people still came out and supported the day and to this we are very grateful. So a big thank you to the Pre-School committee for braving the heat all day, whether it was cooking a snag, making ice slushies, face painting or having a stall, we really appreciate your support. There was much interest as to when this would run again, so maybe it could become an annual event! Thanks again.
The next meeting of the Victorian Farmers’ Federation (VFF) will be held on Tuesday 1st December (note change of venue).
This is the last meeting of the year, and there will be no January meeting. As part of the Christmas breakup there will be supper and refreshments available. The speaker will be Paul Weller, Local MP and a past President of the VFF. The November meeting of the Lockington Branch of the VFF was well attended. Discussion took place with Andrew Leahy (State Water Council Member) reporting on three resolutions forwarded from Lockington. No proaction is to be taken by the VFF. NVIRP activities and decisions are still a source of disquiet. Any member of the VFF or irrigator is asked to contribute by contacting the Lockington Branch or writing to the Attorney-General (with your name and address supplied). The rulings on ‘backbone’ and ‘non-backbone’ are highly divisive and clouded by no visible policy of NVIRP. Eril Rathgen, an incoming member of the Rochester Water Services Committee gave her impressions and concerns with activities in the Colbinabbin area. Again, I reiterate that the local branch is prepared to address problems. Report submitted by Patrick Rochford. A BIT OF A LOOK AT THE FUN OF THE FEAST OF THE SENSES

Young Leaders Scholarship,” he said. “Successful applicants will share in
$5000, designed to help them cover some of the costs of tertiary education.” Mr.
Weller said The Nationals recognised the high costs young people in regional The Rudd Government’s harsh eligibility
criteria will leave many country students unable to access financial assistance
after they finish year 12. Many will have to defer their place at university
for at least two years. Without financial assistance, many young people
simply cannot afford to pay the $20,000 it takes students to relocate to

SHIRE OF CAMPASPE MEDIA RELEASE 18 November 2009 COMMUNITY GROUPS HAVE 80,000 REASONS TO SMILE
The Shire of Campaspe will pour more than $80,000 into 40 projects and events across the region through the second round of its increasingly popular Community Grants scheme. Council last night signed off on the spending program which will benefit non-profit sporting clubs, historical groups, schools and
other community
groups in Echuca, Tongala, Kyabram, major and minor events and ranged from the refurbishment of the Tongala Fire Station, to extensions at the Lockington Recreation Reserve, to running dances in Kyvalley. Mayor Peter Williams said the Shire provides $167,000 annually to the Community Grants program, which is increasing in popularity after a review of processes earlier this year. “The scheme helps Council support community groups to implement locally identified projects and programs that will lead to increase partnerships, connect people, promote diversity, develop leadership, build self efficiency, improve the environment and strengthen communities,” Cr Williams said. The program attracted 65 requests totalling $209,275, meaning not all applicants were successful. “We are fortunate to have so many hardworking and dedicated non-profit groups in our community and the Shire of Campaspe is proud to support their important work,” he said. Representatives from successful community groups will receive their cheques at a special presentation on 16 December in Echuca and applications for round one of the 2010/11 Community Grants program opens in April 2010.
Groups in Lockington who received funds: Recreation grants totalling $32,000 were awarded to: Lockington Recreation Reserve - extension to clubrooms - $10,000 Assistance grants totalling $10,666 were awarded to: Milloo Hall - air conditioning for meeting room - $1,000 Major community event grants totalling $25,000 were awarded to: Lockington and District Community Centre - Traditional male welsh choir visit - $500 Further information Mayor, Cr Peter Williams 1300666 535 , 0427 083 286
A Grade played at Moama. Moama won the toss and elected to bat. They got off to a flying start before we were able to slow down their scoring. They set us a massive total 360 to win. All our bowlers bowled well being a warm day with the best of them being Jake Gardiner with figures of 11-3-2-43, the other bowlers to take wickets were T Hermans 2 with the following bowlers each taking 1 wicket: Justin Cantwell, Jason Turner & Ryan McMinn. Overall Greg was happy with the performance in the field then we had to bat 80 over’s and see how close we can get to chasing down this total. Day 2 was hot. Our run chase was off to a bad start with myself (David Graham) being dismissed in the second over shortly after we lost Paddy Gardiner and straight after Josh Cairns. In strife at 3 for 9 Greg Pearse and Ryan McMinn set about building a partnership. They managed to build a 43 run partnership before Ryan went for 24. Brodie Collins did not last long before he was dismissed for 7, which brought Ben McPhee to the crease. Greg was playing a very watchful innings, and with Ben got through to tea without losing another wicket. After tea Greg brought up his 50 then 4 overs later with brilliant shots he soon was 80. Ben also looked to be very comfortable until he was dismissed for 41. Greg put up his 2nd 100 for the season, and with Ben put on a 151 run partnership. Jason Turner came to the wicket with Greg and we still had a chance of chasing down this total. Greg’s batting display continued with him knocking up 150 and still going, and was eventually dismissed for 177 which is the highest A-Grade score for quite a few years, and one of the best I have seen in a long time. He and Jason had put on other 63 run partnership. With Greg out the target seem to be a long way off now with Tim being out of form with the bat. Jason was dismissed for 23 and Jake failed to trouble the scores. We finished up at 9 for 308 with Tim finishing 16 not out and Justin 9 not out, and Greg was happy with our performance.
B Grade played at home and bowled the first week. Moama was bowled out for 203 with the best of the bowlers been Shannon Bish taking 3 wickets. When we batted nearly everyone got starts but no one went on with it. Hump (R Morris) made 39, Hayden Chappell 22 and Luke Bish 20. B Grade is struggling at the moment with some many players being unavailable hopeful this is about to end.
C Grade is travelling well sitting
on top of the ladder with out losing a game since the forfeit at the start of
the season. 20/20
is on at the Bamawm Rec Reserve on Thursday 3rd of Dec against Rochy United starts at Everyone is welcome to come along and have a look.

Once again the Rich River Campdraft turned out to be an outstanding success. We had perfect weather conditions to go along with some great competition, we also saw a lot of new competitors to the sport this year. The event has become so popular that this is the first year we have turned away up to 60 competitors due to not enough hours in the day to run them all. Over the weekend we saw 1100 head of cattle through the yards. The Lockington/Bamawm United Football club provided the catering for the weekend with the Saturday night meals proving very popular with everyone. Breakfast also was cooked each morning by the Lockington Pony Club. While the Competition was dominated by the Reiter family winning 5 out of the 10 events held competition was still very fair. The Rich River Campdraft Club would like to say a huge thank you to Neil Maddison for once again organizing and coordinating the cattle and also we’d like to thank the cattle donors for there wonderful cattle. For without there generosity we wouldn’t have an event.
