I would like to welcome all parents, swimmers and officials to the 2009/2010 swimming season.
If you are taking your first steps into the pool through the learn to swim program I would like to extend a special welcome. At the Lara Swimming Club we pride ourselves on providing a warm and friendly environment at which we can pursue our sport. The club caters for many different levels of ability and age, so please take advantage of any coaching, learn to swim lessons and facilities the club provides.
If you have any concerns or queries or even a suggestion on how we can improve your club please let me or any other committee member know.
I am really excited about the coaching program the Club is offering for the upcoming season. Sean Warren continues his outstanding work as our Head Coach and has already established himself as a highly respected coach and mentor within the Geelong swimming community. In addition to his role at Lara, Sean is also Program Manager (Swimming) with the Barwon Sports Academy.
Sean has a fine group of coaches and teachers to work with in Kathy, Rob, Robyn, Kate and myself. We are also developing the skills and talents of our senior swimmers as they take on coaching and mentoring roles. We would like to build on the tremendous efforts of the last few years and offer a tough, yet enjoyable program, and in doing this, the coaches need your support with a disciplined and committed approach to training.
As well as providing regular club competition, the Lara Swimming Club, also competes at outside carnivals from district to country and state level. Competing in these carnivals is a great way to extend yourself. Talk to your coach if you are interested and target meets to suit your ability. Julie Lane can provide information on all meets and will take entries on behalf of the club.
The swimming club has a strong social committee under the direction of Greg Andrews. Please support the activities and raffles that are run by the social committee as this will help to maintain a strong and unified club. The social committee also organises a breakfast each club morning to promote healthy eating and to help create a caring environment for swimmers and parents. All families are asked to help out with our club breakfast once a season.
As with all clubs, ours runs with the strong co-operation of its members. Many people volunteer their time to help run the club and assist the District, which benefits all swimmers. If you would like to be involved or are needed as a timekeeper etc., please don’t wait to be asked - volunteer your services. The more you put in, the more you'll enjoy the club experience.
Kind
regards,
Kevin Nolan
