Lara swimmers make their mark ...
Lara girls dominated the pool at the Victorian Country Swimming Championships held at Warrnambool between 23-25 January. With 38 clubs competing, the Lara Swimming Club finished 3rd in the women’s section, 14th in the men's section and was placed 6th overall. A tremendous effort - equaling the Club's best ever performance at the Championships.
Whilst delighted with the club’s overall performance, Head Coach Sean Warren took greater satisfaction from the outstanding individual performances of his swimmers. “To see our swimmers train so hard week in, week out and then reap the rewards at Country level is just fantastic.”
Eliza Kol backed up gold and silver medals at the State Championships with a gold medal in the 100m backstroke, silver medals in the 100m freestyle and open 200m backstroke and a bronze medal in the 13 and under 200m individual medley. The talented backstroke specialist will compete at the Australian Age Championships in Sydney in April.
Kirstie Green dominated the 11 and under age category with a first place in the 50m freestyle and silver medals in the 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke.
Twelve year old Tahlia Warren finished second in the 100 backstroke and then third in the 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly. Kate Wallis swam a personal best time to finish second in the 18 and over 100m backstroke whilst Chelsea Rowe finished third in the 100m butterfly for 13 year olds.
Eliza Kol, Sarah Andrews, Chelsea Rowe and Alicia Nolan won bronze in the 14/U 200m Medley Relay. Kate Wallis, Kate Bramley, Kellie McMillan and Simone Brown won bronze in the 17/O 200m Freestyle Relay.
Many other individual swimmers and relay teams from Lara made finals and earned valuable points for the club.
CONGRATULATIONS, ELIZA
Victorian Age Champion
Eliza Kol won a gold medal in the 100m backstroke at the 2010 Victorian Age Swimming Championships. Eliza followed up the win with a second placed performance in the 200m backstroke. The times recorded by Eliza qualify her to compete for the second year in a row at the Australian Age Championships to be held in Sydney in April.Chelsea Rowe also recorded personal best times at the championships, finishing ninth in the 100m breaststroke and tenth in the 200m breaststroke. Tahlia Warren swam well in the 200m freestyle to finish tenth overall.
Lara Head Coach, Sean Warren, was thrilled with the performance of all of his swimmers and is looking forward to the Victorian Country Championships to be held in Warrnambool at the end of January. We’re sending a large contingent to the championships this year and all of our swimmers are looking forward to competing against the best swimmers from country Victoria.
