July 09 Dinner Meeting

The highlight of the July 09 Dinner Meeting was the induction of ex Leo, Felicia Santoro as a Lion. Felicia or 'Flick' as she prefers to be known was a 'first day' student when the Lara Secondary College was established in 2003 with an initial intake of 112 Year 7 students. Flick now attends Deakin University.

Flick held the Leos together by taking on the Secretary role and provided reports, minutes and up to date information to the District and the Lions Club.

Whilst in the Leos, Flick put Lara on the map nationally, by winning the Leo Award of Honour which was presented  to her in 2008. The Club looks forward to her making a valuable contribution to the community and hopefully, the beginning of more younger people joining the Club as 'Young Lions'.

We are now looking forward to next month's dinner meeting at Little River where we will hear our guest speaker, Pat Naughtin talk about 'How to Smash a Spaceship'. Wow! don't miss this next exciting episode of the Lara Lions year!

Christmas 2008

Monday 8 Dec 08, the Lions Club of Lara held their Christmas Dinner at Flinders Bistro (Lara Sporting Club) in Lara.

Lions, Leos and families were joined by newly elected councillor, Cameron Grainger, who was made welcome and seemed to enjoy the evening fesitivities.

Santa duly arrived after dinner and Lions partners, Leos and children were called out in turn to receive a present, including Cr Cameron Grainger!

Launch of the NEW CARAVAN at the Lara Heritage Festival

The Lions Club of Lara launched their new refurbished Catering Caravan at the prestigious Lara Heritage Festival held over the weekend 14 - 16 March 2008.

This van was an ex Forestry Commission vehicle which was acquired by the Lions and has been lovingly reworked both inside and out to become an outstanding asset to the Club.

Also shown (left) is President Dennis Grant, obviously ordering a breakfast egg and bacon roll (yum yum), and behind are Doug and Byron Willey who virtually rebuilt the Van with assistance from other Lions and businesses.)
