Lions Supervise Duke of Edinburgh Award Kids

Five Lara Secondary College students who are striving to get their Duke of Edinburgh awards were supervised by Lions Jeff Cahn and Jeff Sollory on Thursday 13 Nov 08.

Kevin Hoffman gave the students a short talk and set out what they had to do. The kids together with their teacher worked from 09:30 to 11:00.

Relationship

The relationship between the Lara Secondary College and the Lions Club of Lara grows steadily each year as Lions assist with school projects.

During November 2005, time was spent in doing some bike repairs to assist a number of students who were going on the Great Victorian Bike Ride.

We are now involved with 2 groups of students in their extensions programmes, one group have looked at what could be done in the Lara swimming pool upgrade, the second group of 10 students are building a Heron class yacht.

Heron Boat Building

Lions assisted students with the building of this Heron Boat during 2005. This is the first Heron built in Victoria for years. The project also has the involvement from members of the Heron Association, and is a challenging time for the Lions who are assisting the students.
