The Lions Club of Lara's Children's

201V2 Convention on the afternoon of Saturday 7 Nov 09.
The Club is finally getting to the end of the procedural red tape to get this project adopted nationally. The next step is to present the project to the Mutiple District Convention in Mildura in 2010. Meanwhile, the Club visits within Lions District 201V2 will continue with continuing positive outcomes.

please
note that the Club’s Notice of Motion regarding the Children’s
Charity Network has been adopted by the District V2 Convention and will
now go forward to the MD201.
That Lions Clubs in District 201V2, in conjunction with the non profit Children's Charity Network, support the development of schools based programmes within the District 201V2 to improve children's literacy skills, and that the project run for an initial period of three years.
Children's Charity Network Inc is an Australia wide group working to improve children's self esteem and improve literacy and artistic skills, encouraging students of primary and secondary schools to participate in development programmes.
The programme involves published authors and artists visiting schools and conducting exercises to encourage children to challenge their own abilities. Students are encouraged to submit their writing on any subject and each article is published in the Children's Charity Network high quality glossy magazine.
The experience of the Lara Lions Inc is that where the programme has been implemented, a panel of five published authors visited the local schools for a two day period and after the visit literacy levels increased by 15% across the schools. These figures are indicative of the success the programme is having throughout Australia.
The Lara Lions Citizen of the Year for 2007 is the Chief Executive of the Children's Charity Network.

2004 District V2 Convention at Ballarat
The November 2004 convention for District V2 was held in Ballarat. Our club was represented by Leslie and Lion Herb Picker, and Jeanette and Lion Don Robinson. This was a rewarding and interesting event and I hope that more members will consider attending future conventions.
We heard great challenging speakers and experienced interesting debates. The weekend included good food and great entertainment. At the very impressive opening ceremony our own Lion Kerry Thomas was a flag bearer, and Marion Brittan, widow of PDG Bob Brittan was in attendance for very moving ceremony for those Lions who had passed away during the year.
