Club Twinning

twinningpatch

The International Club Twinning Programme is a voluntary and mutual agreement between clubs in different countries. Lions and Leos can participate; however, twinning should occur between like clubs (i.e. Lions with Lions, Leos with Leos).

The purpose of twinning is to give clubs from various cultures an opportunity to learn about one another. Through correspondence, the twinning partners actively illustrate the First Purpose of the Association, To create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.

Latest Message from Holderness, Yorkshire

Good Afternoon to all Lara Lions

Apologies for not keeping you up to date with the goings on in Holderness Lions, I think our President, Lion Dorne, keeps the web site up to date.

So what have we been getting up to; we are still running our twice monthly Farmers Bingo sessions which are proving to be a fairly good money spinner but also a social event.

We have plans in place to take some 150 senior citizens to Bridlington, where the local Bridlington Lions put on a carol concert every year, always worth attending.

We have a Christmas party organised for seniors, bit of entertainment, tea and mince pies and a small present.

Santa's sleigh comes out of hibernation this weekend and will then be out during the next few weeks going round the local villages; lot of walking and knocking on doors.

Christmas hampers in various pubs etc., usually make a good profit for the Charity Account.

So as you can see a fairly quiet time for us in Holderness Lions!!!!!

Roll on Christmas day, feet up and a gently snooze after lunch; don’t think it will be a Barbie!

Every good wish to you all.

Eileen Smith

We look to be having a good start to the new year as 3 prospective members have been invited to the meeting on Tuesday, they have attended two Farmers' Bingo sessions and so have met some of the Holderness Lions.

Our embryonic Leo Club is still flourishing with about 9 members. Hopefully we will be able to recruit some more members and could manage to Charter the Leo Club sometime during this year. They are all at the younger age range but all very enthusiastic.

Hope the Lions Club of Lara has a good year.

Best wishes
PDG Eileen Smith

Our final event this year is tomorrow night 21 December taking two coaches of Senior Citizens to the Bridlington Lions Club annual Christmas Carol Concert at the Spa Complex in Bridlington.

Christmas 2009 with our English Friends

Lions Club of Holderness

Greetings from Holderness Lions, may we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.

We are very busy at the present with our pre Christmas programme, mainly the sleigh runs with Santa Claus visiting the various towns and villages in our patch doing door to door collections and giving small presents to the children.

The start of the Christmas activities began on 15 Nov 08 with a raffle of a seasonal hamper at a local garden centre, followed by another hamper on the 29 Nov at the same garden centre, plus we have a further six hampers to be raffled at several pubs and shops around our area.

Our sleigh visited Hedon Lights Switch on Night on 28 Nov and we ran a soft toy stall on the same night. The following Monday 1 Dec, our sleigh together with Father Christmas visited Sproatley for their Lights on Night and we continued on the 2 Dec with a sleigh run in one half of Hedon. On Wednesday afternoon 3 Dec a concert for our senior citizens was held at the Royal British Legion Club, Hedon with entertainment including popular songs and a medley of carols from a male choir. The audience of about 75 to 80 people enjoyed the concert and the mince pies and tea or coffee at the interval. The 4 Dec was the day for the sleigh run to Paull and we had fine but cold weather with enthusiastic and appreciative residents.

Monday 8 Dec we have a Zone meeting in Bridlington together with a ten pin Bowling match between the Zone clubs, our meeting on the next night followed on Wednesday 10 Dec we hold our Christmas Bingo. Thursday and Friday we continue with our sleigh runs in Thorngumbald and Burstwick respectively.

Our final week begins with Bridlington Lions Carol Concert on Monday evening 15 Dec at The Spa, Bridlington a recently refurbished venue at a cost of over £6 million and we are bussing 100 senior citizens to the concert. Tuesday 16 Dec we are in Preston village with our sleigh and end our sleigh runs the next night in Hedon. My wife Lion Eileen and I will end our Christmas duties on Friday 19 Dec by assisting Goole Lions for two hours with a street collection in Goole shopping precinct. Lion Janet Weatherill Holderness Lions secretary and also District 105C 2008-09 Vice District Governor will be helping Goole Lions with their street collection on the following day.

I also attach three photos from our Sproatley visit, No 1 Father Christmas, me Lion Peter Wilson and little boy, No 2 Lion Eileen Wilson and VDG Lion Janet Weatherill and No 3 VDG Lion Janet Weaherill and PDG Lion Eileen Smith.

The District Convention was held on the 2 to 4 February 2008 with the AGM at a hotel in Hull during Saturday followed by a ferry trip to Holland returning to Hull on Monday morning which was a hectic weekend but judging by the many comments was very successful and enjoyable. Friday 29 February the Club collected donations from the public at a supermarket in Withernsea in aid of the 'Marie Curie Cancer Charity' which provides free of charge nursing care to terminal patients who wish to stay in their own homes.

Last Friday the Club conducted a Till Receipt Draw at a local supermarket from 09:30 to 16:30 to raise funds.

The format is to ask customers if they wish to recover the cost of their shopping bill by donating £1.00 with a minimum payout of £20.00 and a maximum of £100.00. The Club collected well in excess of £400.00 and the payout was only £20.00, so a good day was had by all .
