Jail rape probe nears completion Rayong - Investigations into the rape of Lao teenage girls in a police station cell are expected to be concluded in a week. The four victims have identified two more inmates as the men who raped them at the Muang district station, said Pol Col Kitti Ruangruengwong, superintendent of the Crime Suppression Division's 4th unit. Identification of Samnao Chaiyasarn and Prakit Jungjai brings the number of suspects to six. Thongbai Thongpao, the human rights lawyer who is to act for the girls in court, said they were in the care of the Lao embassy. The four, aged 16-18, were arrested on gambling charges on April 9 and later charged with illegal entry. They were being held in the cell with other male prisoners when they were gang-raped on April 11-14. (Bangkok Post, 5 June 1997)
