Beijing Mayor Meets Lao Delegation BEIJING (Aug. 3) XINHUA - Beijing Mayor Jia Qinglin met here today with a delegation of provincial secretaries with the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) led by Mounkeo Olaboune, governor and secretary of Vientiane Province. Jia, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the Beijing Municipal CPC Committee, noted that China and Laos are neighboring countries which share a number of mountain ranges and rivers. He also noted that people in the two nations have a long history of friendship. Jia expressed his belief that the delegation's visit will further accelerate the progress of friendship and cooperative relations between the two countries and two parties. Jia briefed the delegation on major tasks facing the Beijing government. Mounkeo, who concurrently serves as a member of the LPRP Central Committee, expressed the delegation's delight with the visit and agreed the trip has provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about China's successful reform and opening-up effort.
