Collection

Gold Mining

The main focus of the Museum collection is on Ararat and district. The majority of items in the collection include objects that were made or were used or were owned by someone in the local district.

All items in the Museum were donated, and the Society welcomes further donations, which broaden its collection. All items offered are considered carefully by the Society. We select those items that are in good condition, which have a local connection, and which do not duplicate the existing holdings.

Weights and Measures

The collection comes from a wide range of sources. We have major holdings of: Aboriginal artifacts, items from the squatter and mining eras militaria, service organizations, sport, transport, local business, geology, communications, domestic life, churches, the trades, education, farming, medicine, and clothing. The items are mainly displayed in a coherent fashion through the use of cabinets
