YOUR RIGHT TO PRIVACY
On 21st December 2001, the Privacy Act 1988 came into effect. All incorporated bodies (U3A's included), are required to comply with the National Privacy Principles when handling personal information.
We are required to have a Privacy Statement, in which we state what information we hold on individuals, how we use it, how we keep it up to date, and to whom we disclose such information.
You are entitled to access the information held on you, and you may ask that it be amended or added to as necessary.
U3A LAKES ENTRANCE PRIVACY STATEMENT
The basic information held on members is: names, addresses, telephone numbers, and age group. This information is entered into the Register of Members, which is required to be maintained by Clause 5 of our Constitution. The Constitution also requires that the Register of Members be available for inspection free of charge by members.
Lists of financial members will be produced as required, containing names, addresses and telephone numbers. These lists are used by members of the Management Committee for administrative purposes, such as communication and contact with financial members. Class enrolment lists are prepared for each term, limited to the names and telephone numbers of members registered for each class so that communication may take place between members and Course Facilitators.
The only information disclosed to other groups may be names and addresses, telephone numbers, and age groups. This information may be provided to the U3A Network and it may be a pre-requisite to funding being provided by that body.
Medical information may be written on the rear of membership badges by the individual member if he/she chooses to do so. This information will be treated as strictly confidential, and may be accessed only in the event of a medical emergency.
You may ask for a copy of the information held on you, and you may ask us to change any aspects that are inaccurate or incomplete. If you have any concerns about the privacy of the information we may be holding on you, please let us know. Should any member not wish to have their telephone number or address made available to other members or to the U3A Network, they are asked to advise the Secretary.
