| Doc,
Marty and Jennifer arrive in 2015 |
PART 2 |
|
There are currently two
versions of Marty and Jennifer on this date.
There may be one other Doc Brown
as well, though we never see him. Doc may or may not have traveled
to this point to figure out the exact series of events that lead
to Marty Jnr joining Griff's gang. He may have figured everything
out from the newspaper reports.
|
PART 2 |
| A
floating sign reads COURTHOUSE SQUARE EXIT |
PART 2 |
Marty: "Alright Doc, what's going on,
huh? Where are we? When are we?"
Doc Brown: "We are descending towards Hill Valley, California
at 4:29 PM on Wednesday October twenty-first, twenty-fifteen."
Marty: "Two-thousand, fifteen? You mean we're in the
future?" |
PART 2 |
| A
floating road sign reads: PHOENIX, BOSTON, LONDON |
PART 2 |
| The
Hill Valley sign reads - 'A Nice Place to Live' Please Fly Carefully |
PART 2 |
Doc
Brown: "First you
gotta get out and change clothes."
Marty: "Right now? It's pouring rain."
Doc Brown: "Wait five more seconds."
(The rain stops in exactly five seconds.)
Doc Brown: "Right on the tick. Amazing. Aboslutely
amazing. Too bad the post office isn't as efficient as the weather
service." |
PART 2 |
| Compare
the above to a comment Marty made about weather forecasters on
November 12, 1955 |
PART 1 |
| Doc's
gripe about the post office is probably an in-joke, given we
are later asked to believe that Western Union has kept a letter
for 80 years and delivered it on the exact right day and time
and place as intended |
PART 2 |
| There
is a FUSION INDUSTRIES generator in the alley where Doc Brown
lands the Delorean. Of course, along with the hover conversion
to the Delorean, a Mr FUSION fuel intake device was added to
the back of the time machine |
PART 2 |
| In
the alley are piles of discarded laserdiscs and compact discs
(though, they could also be CD-ROMs or DVDs) |
PART 2 |
Doc
Brown: "Excuse the
disguise, Marty, but I was afraid you wouldn't recognize me.
I went to a rejuvination clinic and got an all-natural overhaul.
They took out some wrinkles, did a hair repair, changed the blood
- added a good thirty or forty years to my life. They also replaced
my spleen and colon. What do you think?"
Marty: "You look great, Doc." |
PART 2 |
| The
bag Doc Brown gives Marty with the jacket and shoes inside is
labelled NIKE FOOTWEAR. The shoes with the powerlaces are also
NIKE. Don't know what brand the jacket is though |
PART 2 |
| Through
the Twin Pines Mall scene early in BTTF, Marty is wearing
NIKE and so is the Doc |

HILL
VALLEY EDITION
Thursday October 22, 2015
YOUTH JAILED
Martin McFly Junior Arrested For Theft
Youth Gang Denies Complicity |
PART 2 |
| Seems
the the Hill Valley Telegraph has been superceded by a city-specific
edition of USA Today |
PART 2 |
Marty: "Within two hours of his arrest,
Martin McFly Junior was tried, convicted and sentenced to fifteen
years in the State Penitentiary. Within two hours?"
Doc Brown: "The justice system works swiftly in the
future, now that they've abolished all lawyers."
Marty: "This is heavy." |
PART 2 |
| None
of what Marty is reading out appears in the prop newspaper that
was created for Part II. See USA Today table below. In
fact, the newspaper says that Marty Jnr. "will be arraigned
tomorrow and tried in a data-fax court later this week." |
PART 2 |
| Doc
Brown: "Marty, be
careful around that Griff character. He's got a few short circuits
in his bionic implants." |
PART 2 |
| Posters
in the alley which read: "VOTE YES ON 237 - LEGALIZE BIONICS" |
PART 2 |
| There
are posters in the alley to RE-ELECT MAYOR GOLDIE WILSON, JNR |
PART 2 |
| The
NO LANDING sign on roadway |
PART 2 |
|
The courthouse square has
changed considerably, but the clock still has not been repaired
or replaced - stuck at 10:04. This means the SAVE THE CLOCKTOWER
fundraiser of 1985 must have worked. The Hill Valley Historical
Soceity was raising money to stop Mayor Wilson from replacing
the clock.
The clock does, however, look
to have been further damaged since the lightning strike of 1955
|
PART 2 |
| Jaws
19, directed by Max Spielberg, is playing at the Holomax cinema,
which has replaced 'The Essex.' The tagline for the film is 'This
time it's Really, Really Personal' |
PART 2 |
| Steven
Spielberg, Executive Producer on all three BTTF films
and director of the original Jaws,
does have a son named Max. Of course, the Jaws film series has
not made it past Jaws 4: The Revenge, so far |
PART 2 |
| Marty: "Shark still looks fake." |
PART 2 |
| A
holo-billboard ad for Wilson Hover Conversions, starring Goldie
Wilson III, son and grandson of two previous mayors of Hill Valley |
PART 2 |
| Goldie
Wilson III: "I'll
hover-convert your old road car into a skyway flyer. For only
39,999.95" |
PART 2 |
|
The 'Blast from the Past'
antique store has dozens of things in it. Starting from the top
left-hand corner, as we face the window:
- A sticker on the window that
reads: DO YOUR THING (But
not on me!)
- As an in-joke, Marty's denim
jacket from the first film is behind that
- A Black & Decker clothes
iron is below the jacket (with the sign reading: It's Heats Up!
Iron Clothes the Old Fashioned Way)
- Next to the iron is a Black
& Decker dustbuster (sign: Circa 1988)
- Under that is an Apple Mac,
circa 1984
- In the bottom left hand corner
is on Dragnet
(1987) video, barely seen
- Then there is a Jaws
Nintendo game and one for Jaws
2
- They are sitting atop a really
old VCR - it might even be top-loading!
- Across the front of the window
reads: Antique Coins and Bills
- Hidden behind the Q in that
sign is Animal
House (1978) on video
- In front of the Animal House
video is a sticker: THE POPULATION
BOMB IS SOMEONE'S BABY
- And behind Animal House is a
1982 video game called "Burgertime"
(1982) (VG)
- Immediately to the right of
Burgertime is a lava lamp
- Above the lamp is an old Magnavox
radio
- A Super-VHS camera sits just
behind the all-important Gray's Sports Alamanac
- To the right of the camera is
a board filled with Happy Faces stickers and pins
- Below that are a six-pack of
Perrier bottles of water (as the sign says: Vintage 1982 - Original
Water Still in Bottle)
- Next to those are a Roger Rabbit
doll and lunchbox
- The water and Roger Rabbit are
sitting atop a JVC television, which have obviously been replaced
by the large screens like the ones we see in the McFly house
in Hilldale
- Next to the old TV is bronze
bust of John F. Kennedy
- Stuck near the next window frame
is another DO YOUR THING
(But not on me!) sticker
plus one that reads: STAMP
OUT OLD AGE - SWING! (A play
on the old line: Stamp out old age - smoke!)
- On the other side of the window
from from JFK are a Ken and Barbie doll in their distinct Mattel-pink
packaging
- On top of Ken and Barbie is
the political comedy album, "Trust Me," which lampoon's
Jimmy Carter and his family
- And hanging to the far right
is a plastic curtain filled with pins, behind which is a CARTER FOR PRESIDENT poster - the tagline for which I can't decipher

| "Beat
It" by Michael Jackson ... as Marty enters the Cafe 80s |
PART 2 |
| One
of the things Marty notices when walking into the Cafe 80s is
two car-window signs "Baby on Board" and "Dead
Wife in Trunk," which Marty had never seen before - given
they were popular in the late 80s and he was from 1985! |
PART 2 |
|
As Marty enters the cafe:
- We see a picture of an astronaut
in full EVA suit
- Above that is a Miami Dolphins
T-Shirt
- To the right of it is a mask
of Cuban leader Fidel Castro
- Below that are tennis shoes
and a blue electric guitar
- We then see our first glimpse
of Wild Gunmen - from Nintendo. On top of it is a sign exactly
the same as the ones in 'Blast from the Past', letting future
people now what the product is
- On the other side of Wild Gunmen
are more masks - one is definitely Ronald Reagan, one is perhaps
Mikhail Gorbachev, the Ayatollah Khomeini at the end, leaving
one unidentified
- There is another electric guitar
under them
- In the extreme back corner is
a photograph of Ronald Reagan, wife Nancy and their chimp, Bonzo
- We then get a quick glimpse
of the wall of TVs
- On the extreme right of the
cafe, where Old Biff sits, there are people on excercise bikes
and other items to small to decipher: newspaper clippings, yet
another electric guitar, etc
- Right behind the cyclists is
the PAC-MAN arcade game, again with a 'Blast from the Pas' sign
on it. There is also another sign, this time across the screen,
which says: "Priceless Artifact. Do Not Touch"
|
PART 2 |
Ronald
Reagan simulacra: "Welcome
to the Cafe 80s where it's always Morning in America, even in
the afternoon. Our special today is mesquite-grilled sushi."
Ayatollah Khomeini simulacra: "You must have the
hostage special!"
Reagan simulacra: "Cajun style."
Khomeini simulacra: "The hostage special! You must
have the hostage special!"
Marty: "Hey, hey, hey, guys. Hey, hey. All I want
is a Pepsi." |
PART 2 |
| "Morning
in America" was the theme of a television ad for the Reagan
re-election campaign of 1984. According to Tracking the Media, '[the campaign] is void
of issues but designed to make voters feel good about the country.'
It became a popular catch-phrase in the mid-1980s |
PART 2 |
| When
the Michael Jackson simulacra is reading the menu and stutters,
it is a reference to the television series Max Headroom (1985) |
PART 2 |
| Marty
can't open the future Pepsi bottle - just like he couldn't open
the bottle in 1955 |
PART 1 & 2 |
| When
Biff is talking to Marty (thinking it's Marty Jnr) about his
old man (who Marty confuses with his actual father, George McFly),
we can clearly see Officers Reese and Foley policing the Courthouse
square out the window in the background |
PART 2 |
|
ELIJAH WOOD as Video Game
Boy #1
Elijah's role in Part II
is so small he doesn't even have any dialogue. The entire Video
Game Boy dynamic is controlled by John Thornton in the role of
VGB #2. John Thornton went on to play Trevor Hamilton in Conquering Space
and played a guest role in the TV series "Paradise"
(1992). He was never heard from again.
"There are no small parts,
only small actors," so the saying goes. And while Elijah
didn't make a huge impression on the BTTF universe, you've
got to start somewhere. Later in 1989, Elijah went on to star
in the music video for Paula Abdul's song, Straight
Up. Following in the tradition of Courtney Cox and Alicia
Silverstone, who also featured in music videos pre-motion picture
fame, Elijah's star was on the rise.
He appeared in Barry Levinson's
third Baltimore picture, Avalon,
and in Richard Donner's 1992 boys' own flick, Radio
Flyer. He starred opposite Mel Gibson in Forever Young
and in the title role, opposite evil Macauley Culkin, in The Good Son.
Mixed fortunes, reviews and casts dogged the actor through North,
The War
and Flipper
- the film adaption of the 60s series where Elijah endured the
indignity of acting against Paul Hogan.
In between all this he made a
notable guest appearance in the acclaimed TV cop drama, "Homicide: Life
on the Street". Son of a Baltimore judge, Elijah's
character is accused of... murder. Well, the show's called "Homicide"
after all. He's quite compelling in the role, which is much darker
than the characters he usually plays at the movies.
Other notable TV guest appearances:
a radio call-in voice on "Frasier"
and as himself in the first series of "The
Osbournes".
His next four flicks crossed
a variety of genres - human drama, classic tale, big budget disaster
movie and small budget slasher flick. That he came through The Ice Storm,
a TV version of Charles Dickens' Oliver
Twist, Deep
Impact and The
Faculty unscathed meant he was an actor not to be
typecast.
In late 1999 he disappeared...
to New Zealand. He gathered there with a number of respected
actors from all over the world and in conjunction with famed
slasher film maker Peter Jackson made a rather modest trilogy
of films called The
Lord of the Rings. He's the star of the trilogy,
a short guy called Frodo Baggins who has to destroy a ring...
or something like that. Anyone seen it?
As he continues to reshoot scenes
for this trilogy at random junctures (whenever Peter Jackson
wakes up in a cold sweat, one presumes), he's been able to make
a couple more films: though nothing with the kind of profile
that has made him now an icon of film history - Video Game Boy
#1.
Not bad for 21 years of age!
|
PART 2 |
| The
televisions behind the counter at the Cafe 80s show "Family Ties", "Miami Vice", "Dallas", "Cheers", "The Oprah Winfrey Show",
"The
Smurfs", "Taxi",
"The
Geraldo Rivera Show", "Pee
Wee's Playhouse", "Wheel
of Fortune", "Magnum
P.I." plus footage from CNN covering news events
such as Diana and Charles' royal wedding and a story about Vietnam
Vet Ron Kovic, whose life story was explored in the Oliver Stone
film Born
on the Fourth of July |
PART 2 |
| Both
Christopher Lloyd and Michael J Fox's big breaks are showcased
here. Lloyd played Reverend Jim Ignitowski on "Taxi",
while Fox played Alex P. Keaton on "Family Ties". |
PART 2 |
|
JASON SCOTT LEE as Chester
"Whitey" Nogura
Unlike Elijah Wood and Billy
Zane whose careers began in the BTTF universe, Jason first
appeared on the big screen in Cheech Marin's Born
in East L.A. (1988). Also that year he made his television
debut in an episode of "Matlock".
Part II's "Whitey" launched him into the big
time. Well, okay, the big time didn't come for a few more years.
Before the big time, Jason had
to endure several TV movies and the third film in the Ghoulies
franchise, Ghoulies
3: Ghoulies Go To College. Anyone seen it?
Thought not.
Jason is best known for his portrayal
of martial arts legend and movie star, Bruce Lee, in the 1993
film Dragon:
The Bruce Lee Story. Along with this film, Rapa Nui
and The Jungle
Book probably comprise the high point of his career.
Everything else is... everything else.
This year sees him voice the
character of David Kawena in Disney's Lilo
& Stitch and star in the second film in the Time
Cop franchise, Time
Cop 2 - which clearly didn't have the courage of
the Ghoulies' producers to find an interesting subtitle. (What?
Jean-Claude Van Damme passed on this?)
Also from Jason this year, Dracula 2: Ascension.
But which film is this a sequel to? Coppola's Bram
Stoker's Dracula or Dracula
2000? Any ideas? Anyone? Dracula,
Dead and Loving It maybe?
Oh, in case you didn't know,
"Whitey" is one of Griff's gang. The guy with the cool
sound effects generator on his chest. Make sure you don't ever
get called "chicken" around him, because he's got the
cluck to back it up!
|
PART 2 |
| The
Cafe/Hoverboard chase scene |
PART 2 |
| This
scene recalls similar chases in 1955 and 1885 |
PART 1 & 3 |
Marty: "What'd you call me, Griff?"
Griff: "Chicken, McFly."
Marty: "Nobody calls me chicken." |
PART 2 |
| The
hoverboard that Marty steals is manufactured by Mattel |
PART 2 |
Data: "Hey McFly, you bojo. Those boards
don't work on water."
Whitey: "Unless you've got power." |
PART 2 |
Old
Man: "Save the clocktower.
Hey kid, thumb a hundred bucks will ya, help save the clocktower."
Marty: "I... Sorry, no. Another time."
Old Man: "Come on, kid. That's an important historical
landmark. Lightning struck that thing sixty years ago." |
PART 2 |
| The
actor playing the old man is Charles Fleischer who was the voice
of Roger Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The villain
in the film was played by Christopher Lloyd. Fleischer is also
the mechanic who repaired Biff's car after the first manure incident.
He's seen later in Part II. In fact, it's the same character,
named Terry |
PART 2 |
| Biff: "Flying Delorean. I haven't seen
one of those in thirty years." |
PART 2 |
| Marty
Jnr.: "I'm walking
here. I'm walking here... Don't Drive Tranked." |
PART 2 |
|
The above line is a quote
from Midnight
Cowboy, which starred Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman
Zemeckis is obviously a fan of
this film as the "I'm walking here" line is also used
in the director's Oscar-winning feature film, Forrest
Gump and uttered by the title character
|
PART 2 |
| His
don't drive tranked line is in reference to a future phenomenon
of people tranquilising themselves, which one of the police women
comments on at the McFly house when they take Jennifer home |

GANG JAILED
Hoverboard Rampage Destroys
Courthouse
Gang Leader: "I was framed!"
The author of the front page
article (in both versions) is credited as Compu-Fax. I don't
know whether this means the entire article was entirely created
by USA Today's flying drone or not.
In the article titled 'Gang Jailed,'
Griff Tannen is aged 19. The rest of his gang's real names
are revealed, too: Rafe Unger (Data), Leslie O'Malley (Spike),
Chester Nogura (Whitey). Data is 19, like Griff, and the other
two are 18 years old. The caption under Griff's photograph reads:
Gang Leader Had Bionic Overloads. Tannen also claims the incident
was the fault of a fifth hoverboard rider, but that was dismissed
and the 5th rider's name is withheld in the article.
In the article titled 'Youth
Jailed,' by Compu-Fax, McFly Jnr's age is revealed to be 17.
The "little opportunity" that Griff was talking about
was the robbery of the Hill Valley Payroll Substation on 8th
Street at exactly 1:28 AM on Thursday, October 22, 2015. In response
to McFly Jnr's accusation of Griff and his friends being involved,
Griff Tannen responds: "McFly's too low-res for us to associate
with him."

|
Of course, Princess Diana,
who may never have actually been called Queen had she lived,
died in August of 1997.
Slamball playoffs mentioned.
This is one of Needles favourite sports to play. An early draft
of the Part II script had George McFly throwing his back
out playing slamball. In the finished film, he did it in a golfing
accident.
Note the reference to Jaws -
a review of Jaws 19
In the Inside Sports section
it says "Cubs Sweep Series in 5." Currently the World
Series is a best of 7 series, meaning to sweep the team would
only need to win 4-in-a-row. By 2015, the competition must be
a best of 9 series

didn't invent the time machine for financial gain. The intent

and the promise. Perhaps even an answer to that universal question,
why?" |

Officer
Reese: "McFly, Jennifer
Jane Parker. 3793 Oakhurst St, Hilldale. Age 47."
Officer Foley: "47? That's a hell of a good facelift." |
PART 2 |
|
Reese and
Foley are two names Bob Zemeckis & Bob Gale use over and
over again in their movies.
They are the
names of two police officers in 1992's Trespass and of government officials
in Used
Cars.
1978's I
Wanna Hold Your Hand included a cop named Foley and John
Candy played Private Foley in 1941, directed by Steven
Spielberg in 1979.
|
PART 2 |
|
MARY ELLEN TRAINOR as Officer
Reese
Let's first get the unpleasantness
out of the way. I don't want to use the word nepotism, I really
don't. But the dictionary insists I call a spade a spade and
Mary Ellen Trainor a victim of nepotism. You see, she was married
to Bob Zemeckis. *gasp* And not only did he cast her in this
cameo role, she appeared in other Zemeckis films - Death Becomes Her
and the not-so-insigificant (but barely on-screen) role of Kathleen
Turner's kidnapped sister in Romacing
the Stone.
But enough of these accusations.
She probably evened up the scales when she got Bob cast as himself
on her sitcom "Parker
Lewis Can't Lose", where she played Parker's
mother.
The name Mary Ellen Trainor is
probably not one that has rattled around in your trivia-soaked
brain before, unless you author a BTTF web-site and know
her as the director's wife... and Office Reese. But you have
seen her before, trust me. Her name might not be familiar, but
her work is.
She has appeared as Police Psychiatrist
Dr Stephanie Woods in all four Lethal
Weapon films, she was the secretary in Action Jackson,
the mother to Kathryn Heigl's Isabel on TV's "Roswell"
and Jenny's babysitter in Forrest
Gump... oh no, not again! Not another Zemeckis film!
For the record, the episode of
"Amazing
Stories" she appeared in wasn't the episode
the Zemeckis directed. And I'm sure her appearance on "Tales from the
Crypt" playing a character called 'wife' came
through sheer acting prowess and had nothing to do with her husband
being the Executive Producer.
Putting these dirty little secrets
behind us, Mary is a character actress who does great work in
small roles. What was that I said in the Spotlight on...
Elijah Wood? There are no small parts, only small actors. Mary
has given memorable turns in Die
Hard, Ghostbusters
II, Grand
Canyon and Executive
Decision.
Her first credited film-industry
job on the Internet Movie Database is as "associate to producer"
on Steven Spielberg's 1941
- although it doesn't say which producer or define what the associate
position is.

PART 2 |
Doc
Brown: "Great Scott!
Jennifer could conceivably encounter her future self, the consequences
of that could be disastrous."
Marty: "Doc, what do you mean?"
Doc Brown: "I forsee two possibilities. One - coming
face-to-face with herself thirty years older could put her into
shock and she could simply pass out. Or two - the encounter could
create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain
reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time
continuum and destroy the entire universe. Granted, that's the
worse case scenario. The destruction might, in fact, be very
localised, limited to merely our own galaxy."
Marty: "Well, that's a relief." |

There was a moment cut
from the film of Jennifer watching Marty greeting his parents.
It turns out George's accident on a golf course wasn't anything
to do with his backswing. Apparently he was hit by a car that
fell out of the sky! Marty assures his mother that his big promotion
is just around the corner...
Marty then talks to Marty Jnr
about coming away from the multi-channel television to eat at
the table. Marty tells his son to wear his glasses, which Jnr
complains he can only watch two things at once on. Marty explains
that if he wanted to watch two shows at once when he was a kid
he'd have to push two sets next to each other. (Compare the 2015
screen to the multiple televisions in the retro Cafe 80s!)
