The Future
We believe that the
foundations which we are now laying will lead to the economic
development of the entire
indigenous population of Gippsland Victoria.
In 1999 we have laid the foundations for a Regional Indigenous Business Development,
Support and Learning Centre.
We aim to co-ordinate the Economic development of quality,
authentic, traditional and contemporary aboriginal
art, cultural and tourism products and services throughout the region.
Learning Centre operations have now commenced in Bruthen.
A presence has now been
established in Morwell early this year..
The year 2000 will see the
delivery of customised accredited training in both locations.
We aim to establish mobile
workshops throughout the region by June 2000.
1999 saw the establishment of the first business, i.e. porcelain dolls.
In 2000 and beyond we will further develop a number of other small businesses including
Koori Textiles, Jewellery,
tourist services, bush remedies and tucker.
Joint ventures and Consortium
tenders are currently being considered.
The Corporation will continue to strive to make all government and other services more
accessible to
Koori women throughout our region. We also identify
and initiate action on all issues, which impact on the lives of our women.
With a grant from the
Commonwealth Department of Transport and Regional
Services we have commenced a
Community Development project focused on the
Economic
Development of the traditional Aboriginal population throughout the Gippsland Region.
Over
the next three years further business opportunities will be developed,
supported
to establish and receive ongoing access to relevant expertise,
shared resources and joint
marketing opportunities. A presence will be established in Morwell,
regional mobile art &
cultural facilities developed and options explored to make
government services more
relevant and available to Aboriginal people.
Business opportunities which have been identified and are in various stages of development
include:
Kurnai Boorai's, Koori Textiles
(e.g. Doona covers, Manchester, incorporating traditional design),
Jewellery, Traditional Art &
Culture, Bush Remedies, Tucker and Tourism.
Response to our projects has
been extremely positive from all levels of Government, Community and Business sectors.
Many joint ventures are being
proposed and relationships established and nurtured.
We feel confident that this project will impact positively on the lives of hundreds of
Indigenous community members
throughout the Gippsland region.
We also believe that there will
be enormous economic, educational and social benefits
which will have a multiplier
effect on the whole of the Gippsland economy.
