Welcome to the Knox Community Volunteers Web Site.

Knox Community Volunteers is a non-profit organization that provides training, recruitment and support for Volunteers working within the City of Knox.

Knox Community Volunteers is administered by a Volunteer Committee of Management made up of members of the local community.

At present we have over 400 volunteers on our books, but we are always looking for more!!!!!
Volunteers provide various essential services within the City of Knox, such as transport driving, friendly visiting, meals on wheels delivery and more.

Knox Community Volunteers was first set up in 1975, to consolidate and bring together the volunteers working in the City of Knox. A volunteer co-ordinator was appointed, and from these tiny beginnings we have grown into the largest Volunteer organisation within the City of Knox.

Services Available At KCV.

Volunteer Driving Service
Volunteer Drivers use their own cars to drive people to appointments at the doctor or hospital, and to certain Social Support groups.

At KCV we average 180 drives a month, we travel between 5 and 6 thousand kilometres a month, using about 50 very dedicated drivers.

Early last year we received funding to expand the transport service into parts of the Yarra Ranges.

Knox Mobile Meals (Meals on Wheels)
Knox Mobile Meals deliver prepared meals to frail and isolated elderly people, and people with disabilities living within the City Of Knox who are unable to cook for themselves

Volunteers drivers deliver over 200 meals a day to people in their own homes. This service is always looking for volunteers who are willing to give up a couple of hours a week, or a fortnight.

Community Access Service
The Community Access Worker is available to work with frail and isolated older people, and younger people with disabilities, and their carers.

The Community Access Worker will help to integrate people into activities and groups in their area, and is also a great resource for "what's on" in the City of Knox.

Social Support Groups
Knox Community Volunteers run several social support groups aimed at decreasing social isolation, through craft, friendship and other activities.

A Craft Group runs two afternoons a week from the Bayswater premises, and across the road, another group with an emphasis on intellectual stimulation, guest speakers and outings rather than craft runs every second Friday from a community location.

If you have any enquiries or want to know more about any of the activities that KCV are involved with, please feel free to email us or phone us on 9729 9499.

The City Of Knox

Located approximately 25 kilometers east of Melbourne's CBD and nestled against the magnificent backdrop of the Dandenong Ranges, Knox covers an area of 116 square kilometers. Approximately 135,000 people reside within the City's boundaries, and over 4,000 businesses are located within the municipality.

Knox was named after Brigadier, The Hon. Sir George Knox, K.B.E., C.M.G., E.D., M.L.A. (1885 - 1960). Sir George was a distinguished and respected member of Kent Park in Ferntree Gully. He was elected to the Shire of Ferntree Gully Council in 1923. In 1927, he was elected Member of the Legislative Assembly for Upper Yarra and Scoresby and continued as a member of the Victorian Parliament until his death.

Knox's civic emblem, the falcon, was taken from Sir George's family crest. The swooping falcon is commonly seen on sign and livery around the City. Several falcon species are also known to inhabit the Knox area.

Pet Companion Program

KCV has received Community Development Funding to establish a Pet Companion Project within the City of Knox.

This program aims to support frail and isolated older people and people with disabilities to keep their pets as long as possible.

The Pet Companion Program uses trained volunteers to support people in petcare. Volunteers will help people with such tasks as grooming, trips to the vet, exercising pets, and will also become a comprehensive resource of information for people enquiring about petcare in the City of Knox.

This new and innovative project is to be piloted for one year.

If you have any questions, or would like to become part of the program, please contact Petra on (03) 9729 9499 and she will be happy to help.

Volunteer Training

Volunteers are encouraged to attend free training sessions run by Knox Community Volunteers.

These sessions are open to any volunteer working in the area.

These sessions are a valuable way to learn more about Volunteering, to update skills and acquire new ones, and a great way to meet and compare notes with other volunteers.

New Training Calendar for 2001 will be announced next year!

Please feel free to call and book for any of these sessions, or make a suggestion as to what you would like to see on Next Years training calendar!
