Ballarat's Northern Roosters proved too strong for kangaroo Flat in the annual challenge match at the North Ballart Sports Oval on Sunday, January 28.
The Rooster were bowled out for 195 with Thompson retiring on 64. Best bowlers for the roos were Rod Baker, Shane Harling and Jason Seipolt.
In reply Kangaroo Flat lost three early wickets before youngster Rohan Benstead and coach Rod Wight combined for a stabilising partnership. When Benstead was dismissed for 44 the Roos lost their way again, and with Wight out for 34 the Flat fell to be dismissed for 156.
Despite the loss the trip across to Ballarat again proved an enjoyable day for Kangaroo Flat. Twelve players went across on the bus and as always the hospitality and facilities at the North Ballarat Sports Club were first rate.
The challenge series has now been running for eight years and the Roosters have slipped out to a 5-3 lead so hopefully we can restore some pride next year.
