Over 40 years ago, a group of
dedicated working dog enthusiasts formed the original Heeler and Kelpie Club of
Victoria. In 1954 they were joined by Australia's adopted breed - the
Border Collie and formed the Australian Cattle Dog, Kelpie and Border Collie
Club of Victoria.
This Club continued successfully until the Border Collie members decided to form their own individual breed club which was affiliated with the KCC (now the Victorian Canine Association - VCA) in 1983. This club has now seen their breed grow and prosper in all areas.
With much though, caution and enthusiasm it was decided on May 31st 1991 that the Cattle Dog and Kelpie Club should also divide. Separate clubs were formed for each breed enabling each respective enthusiast to concentrate on their own breed at all levels - Breeding, Showing, Working, Obedience and Family Friend. This has not been an attempt to discard all the hard work and experience of the past, but rather to permit each breed to achieve it's full potential.
Just one of the aims of the Australian Kelpie Club of Victoria is to promote our unique breed, to offer correct advice to prospective owners and to be available to help and share the joy of being owned by our handsome, lovable, intellient, four legged Aussie mate.
