Bus
Purchase for Batman-Kangan TAFE
During
the 2009-2010 Rotary Year our Club donated a Toyota Commuter Bus
to Work Force Plus.
Following
a presentation by Sacha Kaluri to all
our Club members at a weekly meeting in July 2009, the Board approved
a donation of up to $10,000 for the purchase of a 12 seater bus
as part of our 2009/10 Community Service program.
This
bus was needed to support students in 2 courses run by Kangan
Batman TAFE for "at risk youth" ie. young people who,
for all sorts of reasons, fail to operate within the normal high
school environment. These courses offer vocational training for
young people between 15 and 17 years old in Automotive and Hospitality.
The
bus was to be used for transport of students from home to TAFE
and return as well as vocational visits to workplaces.
The keys were handed over formally to Batman Kangan TAFE by President
Joe on 19th May, 2010.

History
of the Project
At
our Fundraiser held on Friday 20th October 2006 we
raised
almost $18,000 of the $37,000 required to complete the task.
We
are indebted to the Event Management students of William Angliss
Institute of TAFE for their outstanding assistance in organising
the event and to the generous sponsors and those who attended
on the night for their support.
Since then we have
gradually raised and been donated the balance of the amount required
for the Play equipment and its installation. On Wednesday 15th
August 2007 officially handed over the money and declared the
playground open.
