Local Issues

The KCEC strives to take the lead in collecting, compiling and widely disseminating information on sustainability issues. This enables people to share information and make long term plans for achieving sustainability.

  • Recognition of the "bioregion" as the most important geographic scale for environmental management.
  • State of the environment monitoring and reporting.
  • Effects of local species and habitat loss.
  • Regeneration of natural waterway and wetland ecosystems and protection of existing surface and ground water resources.
  • Pollution and waste management through resource reduction and the manufacture of products using recycled materials.
  • Restoration of natural coastal systems and habitat.
  • Enhancement of open space networks through development of walking and cycle trails.
  • Protecting sites of historic and cultural interest.
  • Efficient energy use to reduce fossil fuel use and reduce green house gases.
  • Working with schools and community groups to achieve a better understanding of ecologically sustainable development issues (ESD).

 Specific Issues Overview External links
Blue wedge KCEC oppose the deepening of Port Phillip Bay to accommodate larger vessels. It will cause unacceptable environmental damage.
Kingston Bay Trail A shared footway is to be built from Charman Road to Mordialloc Creek. It will link with the Round the Bay Trail. KCEC are advocating that it should be installed along Beach Road
Kingston Green Wedge The City of Kingston is developing a Green Wedge Plan. This is a great opportunity for us to get in on the ground level  with input into the plan terms of reference and details.
